Spoken by a person who has probably never worked with a RAW file; you have no idea what you are talking about.

You are correct. I too have been a reader/member of UHH for several years. While there are some contributors whose comments, experiences and explanations are valuable, there are many others who a) seem to want to talk about their gear and/or themselves, b) ask questions because they are too lazy to do their own research and/or thinking, or c) seem to just want to spout off about what they think they know.

At UHH, sometimes you learn something new; most times you do not.

I try to cook something up and post it for you, but since I am busy it will take a few days. I'm not in the habit of doing such dramatic processing.

You're not so busy to write as much as you have here. And I would definitely be interested in seeing what you "cook up."

Although I have no experience with Wirestock, from what I have just read after a brief on-line search your understanding appears to be correct.

You are absolutely correct in your assessment.

The worry I have is that as the democratization of photography continues there will be a rising tide of mediocrity floated by technology that does everything for the "photographer."

Hello,

For those of you who use Topaz Studio 2 (v2.3.2), I have a question concerning the top navigation bar. In working with the trial version I recently installed, I have "lost" the Open and Export icons. How do I "find" them and put them back on the bar?

Thanks.

I never knew what equipment you used was indicative of your skill level. Time to check your focus. It isn't the tool, it's what you can do with the tool.

You are correct. How a camera is used is far more important than the type (or cost) of camera used to make an image.

Unwarranted snarkiness will get you a lot of friends in this community. Oh, and I noticed you haven't posted any extraordinary photographs.

You are correct. Snarkiness - at times salted with the grains of arrogance and meanness - seems to be the rule rather than the exception in this community. And that's a shame.

This is kind of a laughable question.

As a longtime award-winning professional photographer, and also a longtime photography educator, there is no question that the skill , knowledge and vision of the photographer is what matters most, ALWAYS.

A talented photographer doesn't necessarily need a model to make a great shot. And a talented photographer doesn't need a post processor to make a great shot. But neither the model or the processor can do anything without that talented photographer, nothing.

Cheers

Ignoring the first sentence ... this writer is absolutely correct. It is the hard work, the dedication, the eye for detail and the skill of the photographer that makes an image.

Nicely put. Your penultimate paragraph is perfect.

It’s like a nine gear automatic transmission.

Good analogy. The first gear is desire; the next eight gears are hard work; the equipment used matters not.

Unlike many amateurs, accomplished photographers don't spend all day on photo forums arguing about which lens, camera, tripod or whatever is the best. Nor do they boast all that much about the equipment they own. They have better, more constructive things to do with their time.

I could not agree with you more. In my opinion, photographic equipment is not as important as what one does with that equipment. Accomplished photographers know and practice this; others simply talk about it.
