I think you are the reason the economy recovered so quickly after the pandemic, Jerry!

I don't think anyone sell a bootable drive with Windows 11 on it. You can buy a copy of Windows 11 to install on a blank hard drive. However, if your computer was sold with Windows XP it won't run Windows 11 as it has too old bios and processor. You can however put Windows XP back to your computer.

Thanks, I guess Linux it is then!

So if I have a desktop computer with a crashed hard drive (non-bootable) containing Windows XP and would like to replace the drive and put Win 11 on it what is the easiest/cheapest way to obtain the software? Or can I buy a bootable drive with it already on it and put that in the desktop for installation?

My Netflix isn't blurry, either, but the standard example they showed was not sharp. Advertising!

"False" advertising! That used to be illegal but now almost all advertising is/contains a lie or huge deception and nobody with any authority seems to care.

I often have problems with USB hubs. In order to avoid stringing smaller ones together, I bought one with sixteen ports. I can turn each port on and off individually, and it plugs into 110v. The problem is that it occasionally loses contact, and my devices don't work. My cordless mouse stopped working, so I plugged the mouse transmitter into the computer, using up one of the two free front ports.

I originally had the 16-port hub plugged into a smaller hub, and it worked fine for a few days. But then, I got that constant beep-beep when a device connects and disconnects. Right now, it's plugged into the computer via a USB extension cord - another weak point.

So many devices require a USB connection, but they come with very short cables, so connecting them to a computer - if you have a dozen or more ports - isn't possible. Extension cords are a definite weak point. When I lose contact on one of my hubs, I have to unplug a re-plug the extension cord.

You can't tell the quality by appearance or price, so it's a guessing game. I have a cheap Amazon Basics four-port hub that has always worked fine, provided it gets a good signal from the other hub through the extension cord.

USB hubs are so important that they should be better and easier to us.

FYI - I need three ports for external backup drives, four for printers, one each for kbd and mouse, a light over my monitor. That's ten, and there are probably other devices I'm forgetting. By the way, labeling both ends of each cable is a fantastic timesaver. I use a label maker to do that.

Jerry, maybe you are buying the wrong brand. I have 4 usb hubs from the brand Atolla and have never had a problem... I bought a medium one with about 6 ports years ago and it worked well, so when I needed a bigger one I bought two 11 port ones, one just for equipment (never gets turned off), and another one for various backup drives (turned off when not in use). I also bought a very small one to go in my laptop bag for travel. They all still work like new. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DN7Y7XC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

So, as I prepared for bed last evening, I searched for my cell phone and could not find it. It has happened before, so I simply dialed my cell phone number from my land line and waited for the familiar ring tone that identified its location. Well, there was no ring. After looking in my car, searching familiar locations, and trying the ring tone approach several times again, I went into panic mode. You see, I need my phone next to my bed at night to monitor my pacemaker that submits a report to my cardiologist daily, somewhere around 2:00 AM. It also sits on my recharging stand to refresh the battery as a secondary necessity. So, it's late in the evening, I'm ready for bed, and I'm stressed out over the lost phone. As I try to fall asleep, I rehash my activities of the day and possible locations I might have lost the phone, and where I was at with the phone in my hand as a last recollection. I decided it must be at the VA, where I had my appointment with Father Dave, Catholic Chaplin and spiritual leader for Veterans in Northeast Indiana. I had a restless night, constantly waking up deliberating my predicament and potential outcomes, disgusted with myself for being so careless, and dreading a sleep deprived continuation of my problem at sunrise. I got up earlier than usual, did my morning routine in the bathroom, made breakfast and fed the cat, and then called my cell phone only to hear the familiar ring tone go unanswered. I thought about my prior day with Father Dave, remembered I had the phone in hand inside the Chapel prior to our spiritual meeting, and concluded that I may have inadvertently left the phone on a black covered chair that matched the matt finish of my phone cover on the iPhone 8 I have owned for years. Well, I made the hour drive to the regional VA, walked quickly through the waiting area and check-in compartments, down the hallway to the Chapel. Opening the door to an empty chapel I quickly went to the rear when our meeting was held, stared at the black chairs as I approached, and there, almost completely blended into the seat covering was my face down I phone, resting in peace in a place of worship. Relief was an understatement, as my stress level returned to normal, and I was relieved to recover the misplaced Phone. Being in a house of worship I thanked the Lord for his help, slipped a few bucks in the collection box, and returned to my car for the journey home. So, the lesson I learned is that there are three important pieces of personal property a person must constantly be aware of when out and about: Wallet, Cell Phone, and car keys.

When I go anywhere I have a mental checklist of 4 things I need as I leave the house, your 3 plus my glasses. I have walked out without each one of those things before and without the phone or wallet or glasses many times. Since I had my keys those times I was on the road when I discovered what I left and had to go back for it. At least if I forget the keys I won't get far before I realize that!

I don't click on any ads on the internet. If I see an add that looks interesting I google the product or company to see if it is real or a scam. Most ads nowadays are at the least very deceptive and a good percentage of them are total scams. I got scammed years ago by one on Facebook that was a total lie just to take your money and I still occasionally see ads from them. False advertising used to be a crime but the FTC has too much to do now to monitor the billions of ads on the internet.

But just think of the long post you will create to describe your experience. I've been called several times but was dismissed all but once. It was a case of criminal assault and the jury ended up deadlocked 8 to 4 even though the judge made us come back and deliberate some more multiple times... the count never changed.

Sad... I was out for lunch with my wife on Monday and they had a speaker playing music over the outdoor seating. I heard a song that I liked but didn't recognize. I whipped out my phone to open Shazam and realized when I got a new phone recently I failed to add back that app, so I did a google search of what I thought the title might be according to what I was hearing; "I Should Have Been a Cowboy", which turned out to be his debut single. Then Tuesday morning I was reading the news about his death!

I have a tendency to put things in places and forget where I put them. Usually, it's because a lot of time elapses between the putting and the looking. Yesterday, I found a Christmas present I had bought for him. With his birthday coming up, I can't find two things I bought for him a couple of months ago. As a last resort, I'll have to buy them again. If I find the originals soon enough, I can return them - unopened. I'll have to start writing down where I put things.

I have that problem too, but for mainly a different reason. I have a wife that requires the house to be like a showing model home all the time so if I leave any personal items around they get stuck in a drawer, put in the attic, thrown in the garbage (if she doesn't see any value in it), or simply bitched about until I remove it.... so, I have a tendancy to hide things from her so they don't get moved or thrown away (or bitched about) and I hide them so well that frequently I can't find them myself! I have found the old saying to be true many times though; If you can't find something, buy another one and then you will remember where you put the first one!
