If you can wait a bit, Apple may announce new Apple Silicon iMacs. If they do, they'll run rings around any iMac you can buy today. And Adobe just released updates that run native on the M1 Macs that are already out there. Apple hasn't given any indication of schedule, but I've seen at least one item that said they might announce new gear this month.

Might be corrected depending on the software you're using to do the scanning.

8 GB is minimal these days. The RAM upgrade will make a huge difference. Both OS X and Adobe love memory.

A new computer almost certainly won't run CS2. I agree with burkphoto, Affinity Photo is currently selling at 50 percent off. It's similar to Photoshop, with similar capabilities. There are differences in how it works, but there are lots of video tutorials. I still use Photoshop CS5 most of the time, but that's because I've been using Photoshop for decades and am so used to it. I have been moving slowly towards Affinity Photo because I know that one of these days, CS5 is going to stop working on whatever I'm running on, and Adobe is just too costly.

I've been using Affinity Photo off and on, and am pushing myself to use it more. One of these days, my Photoshop CS5 is going to stop working. If anyone has the NIK Collection, it's possible to use those filters with Affinity Photo, though the installation is a little strange. One difference: in Photoshop, most filters automatically apply to a new layer. Not so with Affinity, so you'd be well-advised to duplicate a layer before applying a NIK filter.

Thanks, Simon. Check out "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" and you'll have some idea why I'm leaving.

UHH is a privately operated forum, ostensibly about photography. Because it is privately operated, Admin decides what is appropriate content and behavior. More to the point, it is not a public place and speech can be and is regulated at Admin’s discretion. The First Amendment doesn’t apply.

That said, Admin has chosen to allow larrypayne to run off at the mouth spewing bigotry, hate and insults, and Admin only gave larrypayne a slap on the wrist for daring Admin to do so, not because he has no interest whatsoever in participating on UHH as a photographer.

Groucho Marx said, “I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.” Well, I refuse to remain a member of any club that would have larrypayne as a member.

Been nice knowing most of you.

Typical childish, doltish reply. You belong under a rock, not on a photography forum.

It's been nice knowing you folks. I'm leaving UHH. I'll be posting the reason why in General Chit-Chat.

Monday's here.

Did you figure that out all by yourself?

RMM, I'm still here. Why are you still here?

I'll have to put you in the Ted Nugent category. Remember when he said if Obama were elected, he would be either "dead or in jail"? He's neither.
You said you would leave this forum if I wasn't gone by Monday.
A little rat pack mendacity, hey?

Two planes can't bring down three buildings, can they? Maybe in your world, but not in the real world.

Go back and read my post. It's still Monday. And you're still a jackass.

The proof that the buildings were blown up is in the videos for all the world to see. No other proof is needed.

And . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZEvA8BCoBw

Which, of course, is why the rest of the world thinks that the WTC was brought down by two jet planes flying into them. 'Cause the rest of the world's just stupid.

it's for the special effects challenge.

Just depends on how real or surreal your intent is. As a viewer, it's a bit of a jarring note to me. On the other hand, I can look at it another way and accept it.
