Your link gives a great idea of what that size group is like. Not something I'd try.
On a serious note, the DC group shot was pano'd together. I searched above and found tons of information on Panoramas

I would appreciate anyone's suggestions on what we should see and photograph in South Dakota. We will be headed to Custer April 15th to spend about ten day touring in the vicinity of the Blackhills and the Badlands.
If you have the time before your trip, contact the "South Dakota Dept of tourism"
They will send you all kinds of goodies, information, a general map of the State, discount coupons, I forget what all else they sent me couple years ago. They mail it out pretty fast.
Deadwood is a must, in my opinion. There are so many places out there to see and I agree watch out for the touristy places.
Google Earth, can possibly help you to stay off some roads that I should not have been on with the motorcycle as they were back roads nothing out there for miles around roads. I enjoyed the heck out of them but started getting nervous after the third day setting camp watching my gas gauge keep dropping. Make sure you have plenty of gas before you venture off the beaten path.
A lot of ghost towns out there and if you investigate on the computer some of them are truly empty, desolate, interesting, and sometimes creepy especially at night.
I am suppose to be out there in mid June again, the jury is still out if I will make it or not. Enjoy its a lifetime experience!

So as not to continue this thread I have decided that I am going to pass on taking the group shot. I do want to thanks everyone for their suggestions.
You can do it. Go out and practice on a group of trees. Guestimate the size group, find a lump of trees together and start shooting. Now I have to tell you the trees eyes are always open so watch for that wide eyed open effect. Watch for motion on your shots.
You can do this with all the information on here and some tree practice. I know you can..

OK, so I fudge a little bit. With multiple shots, if anyone has their eyes closed, I switch eyes or full heads.
lmao,,,,,, and this is a good thing. That telling them to close their eyes and when I say 3 open them seems to work quite often.

Could you use a 10mp bridge Nikon (P-90, I think)? Comes with 2 batteries, charger, manual (if I can find it) and I believe I have the box. If so, PM shipping address.
Leave a flower at the wall for me.
I am good on equipment, back to film, but I love film.
You got it Flower at the Wall. Any special place? Person? We can do this. Pm me if you wish

Whistle and step ladder
In Dc, when shooting my special large group, I have a Marine Sgt barking. Obviously you cant do that even though it is very effective for me.
I also have Sgt tell them to all close their eyes on 3 open them. This does two things. They all open their eyes, and they are all looking forward to see what's going on. . .
http://jans.zenfolio.com/p116503123There's always a couple that wont be looking forward..
I have learned you can't make everyone happy. Especially those who say just burn it to cd for me... Nope I don't do that. Here is a quick "Why". My name is on that photo, you can print it at home and it possibly will turn green or blue within a year depending on printer, ink, elements. Then folks will want to know who did the shot? Not who printed it but who took the shot.
and
I have also learned to despise those orange safety t-shirts.
Good luck to ya,
Absolutely WOW..
Very nice
You guys Rock!! Thought I would share what I've been doing
