Kodak EktaSensor Press Release

« on: September 25, 2014, 04:04:16 PM »

KODAK Announces New EktaSensor and Partnerships with Major Camera Manufacturers

ROCHESTER, N.Y., September 25 -- Kodak is announcing the release of the EktaSensor, a revolutionary new digital photography sensor, and partnerships with major camera manufacturers. Kodak, the inventor of the digital camera, has created a new 400 megapixel (MP) sensor for digital cameras that will produce the most stunning photographs ever created by any photographic device. The film emulsion scientists at Kodak took their many years of experience and worked with the top digital sensor experts in the industry to create the new sensor. In addition to the massive number of pixels, the sensor is able to record a vast amount of dynamic range, which is the number of shades between pure black and and pure white. The sensor is able to record a remarkable 40 stops of dynamic range, nearly triple the number of stops in Kodak's top professional film emulsion, Vision3. This breakthrough is due in part to a new 48-bit (16-per R-G-B channel) architecture that also allows for billions of colors to be recorded. In terms of ISO, the sensor is capable of capturing the entire dynamic range from ISO 50 to an amazing ISO 1,638,400. The sensor is in the 35mm format (24x36mm) and an even higher resolution medium format sensor is in development. The EktaSensor records all 400 MPs, but can easily scale the image to more manage sizes in the camera.

Following development of the new sensor, Kodak reached out to their longtime partners, Canon and Nikon, to offer them the opportunity to use the sensor in their camera bodies. Both manufacturers jumped at the opporunity and agreed to Kodak's requirements that there would be no exclusivity of the sensor. Kodak's desire is to return the film days when the 'sensor' was the Kodak film emulsion within the camera. Canon has also established partnerships with Sony and Panasonic, and all major camera manufacturers other than Fuji.

I learned a valuable lesson…I have a great photo of an eagle, and have edited it so much that it is now noisy. I should have saved the original in a different folder and duplicated it in another for the editing. Is there any way to restore it to it's original state? Or fix it somehow. I have Carbonite but I can't go back a week to find it…it is only saved as it is on my computer. Can anyone help?

Do a "Search" on UHH for "Deleted photo on SD Card" and view a few replies with freeware if you did not reformat your SD card.

I too have the 5DMkII. Always shoot both Raw and jpeg fine.
If JPEG doesn't have the POP I am looking for, then I post process the Raw image, which like others have said, is always "flat" until processed to the specs you are looking for. I do the same with my SX50.

Please keep it where he's at. We have too many damming our streams and causing flood of farms and in times of heavy rain, some homes. They are engineers at construction by destruction!

What is it? It's a pose that many rutting animals exhibit during their mating seasons. Each may do it in a little different way, but in reality, its all the same.

Have a great day. BB

My Nikon D7000 uses the EN-EL15 battery. I've gotten into the habit of popping the battery (both of them - I bought an extra so as to always have a hot battery on hand for extended shoots.) into the Nikon charger after each shoot.

But then I recalled the early days of rechargeable batteries. At that time, one had to occasionally drain the battery all the way down, because repeated partial charges could leave a "signature," I think it was called, which would eventually result in the battery's only holding a partial charge.

My question is (sorry if this has been covered before) do I still need to do this "full-drain" routine with today's batteries?

Just returned from 2 week France trip with over 2000 shots. On the subject of carrying extra battery in pocket - the storage cap has a tendency to pop off if other things in pocket. My solution is a small heavy duty rubber band to hold in place. PS= I did buy an extra off brand battery, has only 50 to 60 percent life. Stick to camera brand.

Wahawk, Abby,cricket2 ggia, alby, as stated in a previous post, in May, was doing a 2 week trip to Italy, Sicily and Portugal and at 83 did not feel I wanted to lug my 5DMk2 with the long white lenses, etc, so did opt for the SX50, with the results on my site Acadiancountry.com and then click on Pilgrimage 2013, Rome., etc, and find 12 pages of SX50 shots, none with flash as they were prohibited indoors. Landscape shots from moving bus 40 to 50 mph, shot at ISO800, shutter 1/2000 with wide open aperture. Had only 1 week to read manual and study, so some are a bit off color due to experimenting. But all in all I am sold on it. Leaving Sept. 5 for 2 weeks in France and will definetly bring, and maybe also the Mk2 to compare as this will be a more slow paced trip,

My experience with such an incident started with my son-in-law flying from Shanon Ireland to Houston, checked in his camera case, an aluminum Haliburton Case with his Nikon and assorted lenses. Never made it to Houston. Carrier paid, but what a hassle. I travel quite a lot, all equip. is carry on. Just returned from Rome, etc. with Canon 5DMk2 and assorted white lenses, and my new toy SX50. I make it a practice to type an inventory sheet, bolt print, of all my equip. including model no. One goes in the carry on bag, which fits under seat. A second with my passport. I open the bag, show the inventory sheet to the security person, and show him my copy. The moment the bag exists the scanner, I check all contents with the TSA watching. Never had any problem, they see that everything is being inventoried after processing, right on the belt.

I own a Canon 7D with different lenses. I am going to Japan as a tourist and wonder about traveling lighter with a Canon SX50 which I would have to purchase. Is this a good compromise?

Just returned from 2 weeks in Rome, Sicily and Portugal. My go to camera is a Canon 5DMkII with several Prime lenses, all L including Tels, way too heavy for my 83 yr neck. Bought a SX50 and a couple 32 gig cards, 3 batteries. Shot Raw & JPEG Fine, always had extra battery and had to change a couple times, never had to change card with 1723 shots. First couple days had some good, some not so good, but after got the hang of it, WOW, others on tour got the SX50 on return. I used the auto focus, and even through bus window got great landscape shots. Learn to take your time at first with focus. Most of all enjoy the trip.

This question appears every so often. Felt it was time...again.
Has anyone trimmed all their camera gear down to a P&S as their #1 go-to camera? Have you gotten rid of all of the cameras and lenses, and now resort to the simpler life of ONE, one piece, camera?
This thought occurs to me often, but haven't had the guts to flip the switch yet. I currently have 4 cameras.
DSLR + 3 lenses: 15-85, 50 1.8, 70-200 f4
SX50 HS
SX230 (14X zoom..pocket size)
XZ-1 (4X zoom w/ 1.8 aperture..pocket size)
If I would really spend the time and make an effort to get the very most that I could from a single camera, I think I could do it.
But I'd like to hear if any of you have wrestled (successfully or unsuccessfully) with such thoughts and/or actions.

Am 83 yrs. young, have an assortment of L glass for a Canon 5D Mk II, way too heavy for a just completed trip to Rome, Sicily, Portugal. Bought a HS50SX Canon just 5 days before leaving. Learned the basics, and learned more along the way. Rained for 5 0r 6 days, the MkII would have stayed in the hotel, but the little HS50 stayed with me continuously. Came back with over 1700 shots some not so good, but the majority are keepers. Shot RAW and JPEG Fine, all went on a 32 Gig card, no flash permitted, no pictures at all in the Cistine Chapel, guards walking around and would take cameras if found shooting and take the memory card. Leaving for France in a couple months and nothing but the HS50 in carry on. Many shots taken from moving bus, raised ISO, and shot at 1/2000 with very good results. Check out pics by sending pm. So far, 5 others have acquired this little jewel from my experience. I am not a Pro, but like shooting.
