hello all
need advice on a good point and shoot for between 300 and 500 dollars, one of these is easier to lose to a grab and go thief.
i have had two nikon d7000 snatched from me along the river on the walkway. I'm in a power chair because of back injury, but like to cruise the river walk and take photos. so help in a good p and s preferably nikon or canon. the money i save from not buying a new dslr will go toward my new concealed 40mm block.
so now let the bast come and try to take this one
I love my Panasonic DMC-ZS30. Has 20x zoom and many features. Used it all over Europe last spring. There is a newer model - ZS35 or 40? Can't remember but think it has 24 zoom.
The Canon SX50 HS has proven to be a favorite for a lot of people on this forum, and is in the right price range. Not only that, but it shoots in RAW, has a full range of Manual Controls and a 50X zoom.

You might get more helpful replies if you were to change the title of your thread from your name to something like 'need good point and shoot' or something similar. Just a suggestion...
I have Canon sx50 and like it. Does a lot of what a dslr does, but smaller, lighter and less expensive. Assume you are referring to the River Walk in San Antonio. Great place for photo ops.

What the heck is THAT?
Once I was watching a tv program on car thieves. When asked about expesive car alarms, the thief said he preferred those cars, as he could get $500 for the alarm in addition to the car parts.
I hope that Block isn't worth much.
I'd just stop using the trail!
The first time, shame on you. The second time, shame on you. The third time.......? ;-)

Sounds like you would benefit from a back-up lens.....lets say a 9mm caliber?
it should have said block

People are lousy, aren't they?
Get a security strap for the camera and secure it to yourself or your scooter. I would also consult a senior center and ask how you could be more secure when out with your camera. You don't happen to own a large vicious dog, do you?

I'm not qualified to advise you on a camera, but I suggest six foot tethers made out of 150-200 pound fishing line or (better still) shark leader (cable). The next guy to snatch a camera will just about hit his stride when he hits the end of the cable. When he turns around to see what hit him, then you can show him the hole in the end of the .40 cal. It will ruin his whole day - and probably his underwear too. Hope you're upwind. Life's Clorox moments!
I have two Panasonic LumixTZ20 cameras. They produce excellent images, easily pocketable. The current model is now TZ40 and well within your budget.
The Canon SX50 is also an excellent camera but is quite large and heavy.

Use a small cable and attach the camera to the chair. I don't think a 40 mm block will do much good I'd get a gun! LOL
