I'm with custodian on the boots. Been walking my lab in -5 to -15 with wind and snow. While she did resist the boots at first they keep her feet, dry, warm, free from ice between the pads, and most importantly, keep the salt slush off.

Not convenient, but I use them every day until the snow is gone.

NICE looking dogs by the way!

I'm new to the board after buying a Nikon D3300. Very happy with the camera and 18-105 lens but want to pick up a "Cheap" (less than $100) flash. I'm an old Nikon FE owner who had a Vivitar flash back in the day.
Looking for good advice from the group.
Thanks in advance.
Will in MKE.

Stunning! I think the color adds so much. It's hard to mess with perfection!

A fine point on the hammer explanation.
The BEST tool to simultaneously flatten a finger and remove the fingernail in microseconds.

Been there!

Instead of the Canon/Nikon/lighting debates I focused on the very small note that he was 'Invisible' in the rooms/situations where he was shooting. Becoming invisible is an invaluable skill in getting any great candid.
If I could only be a quarter as good as he was.
Canon/Nikon is about what kind of hammer you use to drive the nail...You've got to hit the nail head, regardless of the hammer!

I'm Will in MKE, started with a Nikon EM shooting Fuji 400 and Tri X pan B&W as a part time news photog.
Learned a lot from that photo editor, the first lesson was " shoot a whole roll if you need to, you can't go back in time to get a picture!" I was away from shooting for 20 years (work, family, etc.)
I'm back in the fold with another Nikon and 'shooting a whole roll for 1 shot' is a whole lot easier.
Still working out all of the options on the Nikon, but the array is amazing compared to the old EM.
Best regards to all of you!

David, You've caught one of my favorite monuments in the world. I especially appreciate the interior shots of the arch that very few people know exist.
Makes me want to go back to Paris again.
Merci mon ami!

So sorry for your loss. Will Rogers said "If there aren't any dogs in heaven, then send me where the dogs are!"
I personally don't think it would be heaven with out dogs!

Having been a ski photog I can give you a couple of tips,
1) shoot from the side, 90 degrees to the angle would be best but you've got to move around to find the best angle.
2) make sure you include some vertical element (pine tree, building) and make sure it's perfectly vertical in your final image.
3) practice a LOT.
