Shots 1,3 & 4 came out very well. For me, it's a walk down memory lane. My thoughts on achieving good daylight shots of the moon; are much better done with 1: > 400mm and 2: manual focus at infinity. Shot two - man, I could just see me at 17 (1971) lying on the beach turning a nice pink!

Thanks for some really nice shots!

Listen all:

I live in a city desired by many as a place to work and live: Seattle.

We have many places in the city where i won't go because of open use of heroin, pot, and booze with no police enforcement. There are many places where it smells like an open sewer owing to people relieving themselves on the sidewalks at night. I haven't experienced that in Newark, NYC or Philly. But people come to Seattle to visit and say it's beautiful. Their observations are based on missing the wort parts. Mine of NYC, Newark and Philly are probably the same.

However, there is nothing in the world like the new York Skyline from across the river (east or Hudson) it's pretty magical. just like the Seattle Skyline from Alki Beach at sunset with a ferryboat passing by.

my two cents.

Your timing posting this is perfect.

I'll be in Newark in a couple of week with some free time.

Got a sample photo to post?

Voss, I think this is by far my favorite of your shots. Really well timed and it tells a very interesting story.

Maybe Ansel Adams set the standard and we judge everything by his work.

Funny, that was the first thing that crossed my mind, but it's the same with color Fotos I take in northern Idaho and western Montana the B&W/greyscale seem much more interesting. Maybe I am influenced by Nellie Stockbridge, an early 20th century photographer from Wallace, Idaho. Or perhaps her mentor T.N.Barnard, whose photographs I admire most.

Nice shots and I agree that there is something about Yosemite valley that lends itself to B & W. If someone agrees with the premise, is there an explanation why?

After more than 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) of snow at 900m ( ~2800 ft ) this winter in Shoshone County, Idaho, the first proof of spring is here: the first Trillium ovatum in our yard. Hurrah!

Toasty warm in the desert wasn't it? Brrrrrr
I too like the first one very much - what provided the city glow on the horizon?

Thanks. I took one pick of me in the chair and my feet on the pack, but it didn’t turn out well. Then I forgot to pull them away. I was tired. It was almost 3:30 AM, and 35 degrees when I started at 1:30.

to MT Shooter:

after 2015 most laptops and PCs have a built in SDHC reader (slot). As I'm sure dsmeltz does, I remove my card from the camera, put it in the slot and read from that into (in my case) PS Essentials. From there, my photographs are stored on an external drive and in the "nebulous cloud"

Hi f/stop:

Out of curiosity, how close to sunset was the shot of the two Owls? the light is very interesting, and i see that it was near 7PM when you snagged that foto. Must have been a fantastic sunset behind you.

Hey Voss, Is this LA area? I like that the entire photo sings "going about our day to day business".

Suneth,

I have all three lenses in use on my D7100 (and several others). The 18-140 gets more use than any other lens by far.
