I also have a 4490 scanner and have wondered if I am missing anything that I would gain by replacing it with a V600. The newer version has an LED light, so warms up faster. Anythung else?

My brother now has my 4490 and he's happy as a clam. I wanted to move up and get something that would last 'til I'm outta here, so sprung for the expensive v850...it's as advertised, but I'll be dammed if I can tell the difference in the scans themselves!

...so, is it a Nikon? F mount? Z mount (which I'm in the market for)? Or another brand?

Thanks. I have plenty of lenses, all F mount, that I use with the adaptor fro the Z series.

...yah, but the Z glass is amazing. The *mount* is the big deal.

Welcome Home...Yes, the 34 is an amazing aircraft...however, I prefer Hueys we have 3 that we restored back to flight status...The org. I belong to...American Huey 369...the 34 came from N.Y and met us at Grissom and our 2 Hueys and the 34 flew to WI were we met a friend with a restored Loach and the 4 aircraft flew to LZ Lambeau...it was a sight to behold!
As for my critique of this photo thank you so much for your kind words...
Welcome Home...Yes, the 34 is an amazing aircraft.... (show quote)

...well, now you went and did it, I'm a LOH pilot. B Troop, 7/1 Cav to be exact...and here's one of mine...heh. And I'm sure your hubby and his buddies are members of the VHPA!

Those H-34's were, and are, amazing aircraft...kinda like the C-47 (DC-3) my dad flew over the Hump (and are still flying missions around the world). And you got it nicely, bravo. I took many photos when flying around Vietnam during my tour...mostly pretty bad, but some came out cool. I learned pretty quickly to get as much shutter as I could...to a fault. Were I to go back in time I'd be panning like crazy and trying to get the blades to fuzz just a little...lol. But, really, with the silhouette and the sun disc, this one is as close to perfect as it gets. And I have to cop to some envy that you got to be in a working Huey!

Instagram is a notorious thieving site. Your work could easily end up in an ad in China or anywhere. There are ONE BILLION Instagram users. I have an account, and post images of my framed pieces (not very often, I must say). I pretty much *hope* that nobody wants to go to the trouble of stealing one of my images using software to render it down from a frame, but if so, my reaction is <shrug> and I'll move on. The OP's response was justified, obviously, but it's peeing in the wind...you're just responding to one person, whomever that may be. And that's life in the food chain...

Fly into LBO if possible. Nothing nature-wise to see in Seal Beach but nice main street. Eat at Walt's Wharf, if open. Pier is also nice walk.

As to Bolsa Chica, go south on PCH about 20 minutes and make left turn into parking lot. Big lens most helpful. Brown pelicans can be caught in flight and Black-crowned Night Heron hidden to your right at entrance point. May be a bit chilly but nothing a light jacket wouldn't cure.

...one correction here: if you're southbound on PCH you can't turn directly (left) into the parking lot, you need to go another half-mile or so and make a U-turn.

Not the kind of suggestions I am looking for; looking for people who have photographed there & have suggestions on shooting

I go to Bolsa Chica quite often over the last couple of months, still a "rookie" learning the different birdies and tide tables and such. There are two entrances to the site; one off of Warner and one off of PCH (Pacific Coast Highway). Both are worth trekking, but the PCH entrance will give you more bang for the buck, more, closer, water. It's a popular place so getting a parking spot may be an issue (I will fudge once in awhile and park in the striped zone(s) cuz my car is small). Best combo for me is my D500 and the 200-500 f5.6 but I've done good work with a Z50 with a 70-200 f2.8 too...really up to you, if you're experienced you'll know what's up. PM me and maybe we can meet up!

I cropped this one a little tighter and reduced the highlights, also this is the unadjusted color of the water.
What do you think?

I like your adjustment...I caught a group of 'em feeding at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands here in SoCal. Had to Google a bit to find that they "group feed"...how interesting, they don't dive like their cousins, the browns...

Interesting treatment. I would lessen the headroom and take the little branches out lower right, otherwise cool stuff!

I just got a Bugs 4W after a week of searching/googling. I'm interested in learning the physics of flying the things and the guy I bought it from (a pro 107 person who's got a few drones) said this one would work nicely for that angle. Impetus was that I just got and finished a real estate shoot, the client asked whether I had a drone as some of his properties would look good with a flyover view...well, I'm all over that! Haha, I have some flying experience as I flew LOH (loach) scout helo's in Vietnam and, of course, took all the training, instruments and such, to go along with being a well-rounded pilot. Now I'm just well rounded, heh. I'm going after the 107 asap, but will be doing alot of test flying in the meantime. I had some fun with the seller and found it's pretty straight-up, I have a cyclic on my right and a weird collective-kinda thing on the left! The yaw thing is a bit different, control-wise...my initial goals are modest, just wanting to be able to do flyovers legally...

...I do it all the time, usually taking the camera with me when exiting for periods of time, but often just putting it tucked-into the driver's side seat on the floor. I've been ripped off for tools before, so have some experience...lol.

Who knows, who cares, this system of taking a Jpeg into the Raw editing of Photoshop works for me for the times I need to bring out the shadow arears of a photo, which is rare because most of the time I "Get IT Right In The Camera".
All the details are there, I print 20X30 show prints that win awards year after year after year, who cares where the pixels come from, as long as I am happy, my clients are happy, who cares, I'm not counting pixels, neither are my clients.
Besides, the Jpeg image that went into the RAW processing comes back out as a Jpeg for further editing.
I sometimes think photographers over think things instead of trying to capture an outstanding image.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Bill, if you just had said "I take my jpeg(s) into ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) to edit, the anthill wouldn't have been kicked. <shrug>

The first few months we were in Nam our whole HQ got shoehorned into one building at our next higher HQ's compound while our buildings got built. One of the general's aids was a major was the minimum height to be in the Army and with a "little man" attitude who had spent most of his career at the Pentagon. Chewing people out for not shinning their boots, undone buttons, sloppy posture or salutes etc., in a freaking combat zone! We were glad to give him exaggerated salutes etc. but evidently any VC snipers in the area thought he was more useful irritating us. We had a lot of code phrases for him. Even our Colonel didn't like him and adapted our nick names for him. On the other hand our XO (Lt Col) was a big tall drink of water with a midwestern twang whose attitude on clothing etc. in a combat zone got him the nickname "Farmer John" - he knew we called him that and made jokes about it. If you saw him coming just before you reached the distance to salute you would hear a stage whisper "If you young fools salute me and make me take my hands out of my pockets I will have your young asses on KP or shit burning detail until a week past your DROS." When we called him "Farmer John" it was with respect. With the other guy the "Sir!" became an insult. Once the Major saluted the Lt Col in the open in view of the hill side and bush outside the wire and we all got a graduate level lesson in multi-lingual cuss words that left the Major singed around the edges and not nearly so insistent on salutes after that. So if we saw him coming we would space out enough so he had a constant stream of one salute after another as a line of us went by. After a while he took to keeping his hands in his pockets and stopped harassing us over dress code etc.
The first few months we were in Nam our whole HQ g... (show quote)

Haha, now that this "discussion" has turned the corner, again, now into *real* life, it's clear to me that RAW vs jpg is a distant second, perspective-wise. When needed, I will go back to dodging bullets for a living to put things right...what's *really* important is obvious.
