Well, it is for me. First and foremost, I cannot afford the high dollar prime Nikons. Secondly, my needs are modest. I post some wildlife images on social media and place a few 16x20 canvas photos on my wall at home. Occasionally, not often, I will enter an image in a contest. If you can't do it with a Nikon 200~500 you can't do it. My wife and I have two of them, several hundred shots a week through each of them. We can both do it!

Once at Pitman Photo, here in Miami, I had the opportunity to talk to the Nikon representative about lenses. It was a brief talk and we both understood that with each person been different there were different needs when it came to selecting lenses. I told him that one of my favorite lenses was the 18-70 f3.5-4.5 DX kit lens and that when I wanted more reach I would go to the 18-200 that has the advantage of incorporating VR in its design. I use both lenses with my D7000.

When we talked about teles I told him that I was still using my old version of the 80-400 VR. He told me that the new version was a favorite along with the 200-500 f5.6. I have never used the 200-500 but the images I have seen from it are simply awesome and yours is an excellent one also. I particularly like how the background is out of focus which emphasizes the subject. Colors are beautiful and the lighting that day was spectacular from what I see.

If you are satisfied with the 200-500 and I see no reasons not to be just keep on using your lens. I bet more beautiful wildlife images are in your future.
