Some of the 'Big Boys' that shoot Nikon look down their noses at the D610. While noted for some issues with focus and oil spots, mine is an exception and I love it. And, a lot of those modern-day Nikon 'Big Boys' probably never even heard of the 'Sunny 16 Rule.' When the batteries died in the older film cameras, we could always keep shooting, whether the sun was shining or not.

Nice shots, camerapapi. Thanks for sharing.

The Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E VR is a great lens, and handheld can produce some remarkable shots. However, in the case of these Trumpeters the photo was handheld in lieu of grabbing the tripod. The image is a bit OOF, but thought I'd post it anyway. I should have taken the time to set up the tripod because these birds were not frightened and posed for the shot. Next time, Trumpeters beware!

Yeah, Mike, your memories & experience of braving the cold and time spent creating these photos far outweighs the mere click of a cell phone. Nice shots.

Yep, jwm1944 is correct. The un-named duck is a Ring-necked duck. They are migrators to the warmer climates in winter, which fits for Cottonwood, AZ.

That's a nice eagle shot. Anyone who says they don't crop their eagle shots is either fibb'n or just not say'n. Those of us who shoot lots of eagles can recognize a crop. Again, very nice shot! Don't feel badly for cropping.

I knew a girl scout once who had one of these cameras. As I remember it took fairly sharp photos.

Yep, cormorant. Like Linda I only see black ones. In any event, a delight to photograph.

Absolute Highway Robbery!!!

Charging to snap photos in a state park or on any state or federal lands is a total, money-scamming sham-Rip Off. Don't fall for it. The Tonto Natl. Forest once told me I needed a commercial permit to photograph on the forest. I reused to pay and shot for years, and then later when I went to work for the B......s I continued to shoot while they squirmed in their seats and said nothing. Nobody should never pay a red cent to pay to photograph on any public lands ... and, you shouldn't either!

Quite nice and with that ray of sunlight. We are neighbors -- I'm in the upper NW corner of MT near Sandpoint -- and I will be out in the AM shooting much of the same. Weather outlook predicts "Sunny." PM if you want.

Thank you kindly. I have done so at the suggestion of another SMer and am back to normal. A good thing to remember for sure ... before really screwing things up, reset!

You're welcome bluezzzzz. As for cropping ... I read Steve Perry too & both his articles on cropping are good pieces. Truth be known, many photographers, and pros alike crop. I admire Perry and his articles and we learn a lot from him, but even he crops when needed.

I crop when needed on birds of prey - just like you because we don't want to disturb or scare the bird. I don't see anything wrong with it. Some, but not all, of my eagle and bird shots are shot at 500 w/1.4 TC & on DX crop mode. Do I feel guilty? Nope.
