I knew a girl scout once who had one of these cameras. As I remember it took fairly sharp photos.

Very cool and exceptional condition! I have a vague recollection of the camera. I believe the girls next door had one. Do you know what year(s) it was available?

OMG I haven't seen one of them in years. My wife did girl scouts many years ago when our daughters were much younger. I'm pretty sure she still has one in a box somewhere.

Yup, my older sister had one. I think she got it for selling the most cookies. Oh how I miss those mints. :)

Yes, even when it was brown, it was called a Brownie.

I remember cameras like that. Way back as a little kid in the late 50s and into the 60s. All plastic, somewhat based on a theme (Girl scouts here) and used 120 roll film or something like that. Very simple, fixed f/8 and 1/60 sec. No flash. That was it. Like those cheap Instamatics of the 60s, SOMETIMES one could get a decent photo with one of these things.

If Beowulf is right in that Kodak made it, the film was probably 620. The only difference was in the holes in the ends of the spool that engaged the winding mechanism. I do not know if patents protected the 120 mechanism or Kodak did it to force customers to buy Kodak film and prevent competitors from making 620. Same thing with other sizes.

Sorry gang. I'm pretty certain it wasn't a Kodak. It was, unless my memory is totally gone...something I often think about when I'm walking around the house looking for my glasses while carrying them in my hand...an Ansco. It was a special edition for the Girl Scouts, vaguely similar in style to the one pictured here, but much more cheaply made. It shot 620 film and had an accessory flash that screwed into those holes in the side. I think the flash used either #5 or M5 bulbs.

Just found this 1957 ad in the online Girl Scout museum. Lots of good information on the camera but no confirmation of the maker. Both Kodak and Ansco made Girl Scout cameras over the years though.
