Somehow a setting was inadvertently set, and have tried resetting but can't figure it out! The playback display of the photo is deep bluish ... sort of a blue black & white. No natural colors of the subjects are displayed, just this very annoying blue image. When downloading to the computer for viewing the image is the same! Consulting the manual so far with no solution. Thanks for any help.

White balance set to tungsten and you shot outdoors?

Were they shot in RAW? Use the RAW editor to change the WB.

There is always a spot in the menu to reset a camera to factory default settings.

But if it's only the white balance, no need to reset everything that may have been modified.
That should ONLY be a last resort.

Agreed, but the description sounded like a last resort might be needed.

I don't shoot or use raw, never have, but may have hit something in that setting accidently ... if so don't know how to reset that area if I did. Note: Custom Setting Menu - Reset Custom Settings was the very first thing I did in the field after the problem was present .... no luck, have hit YES & OK several times but the problem persists.

Attaching a sample image with exif data intact will often help others help you.

Check the manual for setting white balance.

Okay, here is a Blue photo problem with a D610 that has me pulling out my hair trying to fix! The very first thing I did in the field yesterday when I saw this frightening playback in the playback display was to reset the custom default ... hit option Yes, but problem persisted after repeating this option until I just gave up. Today, same issues ... can't restore back to normal playback.

It was a hectic day shooting, eagles, swans, ducks everywhere ... and then a scenic would popup, and I was trying to make settings for everything and was in the Menu adjusting. Don't shoot Raw, never have, never will. So ............ any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, here is a Blue photo problem with a D610 tha... (show quote)

Didn’t you post the same problem earlier? Have you checked the white balance as suggested? Set the white balance to auto (AWB), the try another shot. If the problem persists, post a photo showing the issue and check the “store original” box so we can see the EXIF data. If all else fails, reset the camera. i’m A Canon user, so I don’t know the Nikon reset procedure off hand, but I’m sure a Nikon user on the forum can instruct you how, or you can Google “reset Nikon D610.

Thanks, I've set the WB as you suggest. Tried posting a photo, will try again. As for reset, an option I'll pursue.

To Trix.

Chris you are a life-saver. The reset trick did it! Never would have thought of it. We're back to normal and ready to go back after the eagles, swans, and ducks tomorrow. My photo assistant -- Coco the retriever -- is especially happy. She just loves watching the ducks.

HEY Nikon people ................... it took a Cannon shooter to figure this one out.

Look for a menu option to restore factory settings; that should reset EVERYTHING. I think in "Reset Custom Settings", you're only changing a subset of the items. I found this from a Google search:

To restore the Nikon D610 to its factory settings, just hold down the [+/- Exposure Compensation] button and the [Thumbnail] button together, until the control panel turns off briefly while the camera resets itself to the factory default settings.

I am sure you are talking about WB and I agree that it is not necessary to reset the camera for that what you need to reset if that is the case is your WB setting.

I vote for your WB is set wrong. Since the photos download in the same bluish cast, it is not just the display on camera. I have done this using flash, with camera set to tungsten. In PS or LR or whatever you use, just set the WB to the correct setting and the blue will go away (even if shooting Jpegs). Fix the source of problem by setting camera WB to auto.
