Year before last, I bought an EGO 21" battery-powered, self-propelled lawn mower, and it's been a jewel. Runs great, and I've had no problems at all.

Today, my 25-year old MTD 2-cycle snowblower may have seen its last snow fall. It started all right, but died in the middle of the job, and would not restart. I also have a 24" two-stage Troy Bilt, but it's a bit much for the usual 2-4" of snow each time.

Local Lowes and Ace Hardware both have the EGO 21" snowblower with (2) 5.0 amp batteries for around $600.

Any Hogs have experience with the EGO, or other battery-powered snowblowers?

I had a WORX battery lawnmower. It worked fine for a year, but the battery wouldn't charge the following year. There were no replacement batteries available. WORX said the original batteries were faulty so they sent me a whole new model mower. Same thing happened with that one - battery was dead and non rechargeable the following year. Your snowblower will only be as good as the battery. A replacement battery will probably cost as much as a new machine.
My 25 year old (never serviced) Craftsman 2-stroke blower started to die on me so I bought a big 24" Ariens 4-stroke blower. It is great for the heavy stuff, but a pain in the neck in small spaces or working around the cars or light snow like we have this morning (3").

A colleague of mine had a couple of hours of stopover in Paris and decided to venture into the city. Taken short, he found a pay-to-go public ‘super loo’ but had no Euro coins. As somebody was leaving, he jumped in before the door closed unaware of the self cleaning cycle. He said it was like standing in a car washing machine. He had to continue his trip to India soaked to the skin and reeking of disinfectant.

Hello,

This is my first time posting anything here besides my intro looong time ago. I picked up photography as a hobby and to help relax myself from med school. I only have a 50mm f1.4 lens. All my gear are gifted to me and I am in no position to acquire gear right now. I'll probably start posting more here as time goes on.

Not that I am excusing my newbieness but I just learned how to physically balance the "exposure triangle" and it generally works. I'm having fun so far.

Please critique.

This first photo is heavily cropped but the whole picture did not feel very interesting. As for post processing, I tried to smooth out the sun and sharpen the silhouette of the people. That's pretty much all I did.

The second photo, is straight out of the camera besides turning the DNG to JPG.

The third photo is straight out of the camera if I am not mistaken.

The last photo is resized because I posted it in another forum but no other edits.

That's all for now!

I think they are all great. They show that you are thinking of subject and composition and how to use depth of field, leading lines etc.
Make the most of your 50 mm f1.4. It is great length and aperture for establishing a strong base.

I have the standard subscription to LR/PhS. Broadly, I am a landscape-travel (when possible) photographer, with the occasional side trip to BIF and street photography. What plug-ins would you recommend? Thank you.

Check Luminar AI. You can use it as standalone or as a LR / PS plug in. Perfect for Landscape / Travel shots

We had one additional day in Dublin and since the weather was nice, decided to spend it strolling through St. Stephens Green and down Grafton Street.

Grafton Street (Irish: Sráid Grafton) is one of the two principal shopping streets in Dublin city centre, the other being Henry Street. It runs from St Stephen's Green in the south (at the highest point of the street) to College Green in the north (to the lowest point). In 2008, Grafton Street was the fifth most expensive main shopping street in the world, at €5,621/m²/year, and the thirteenth most expensive main shopping street in the world in 2016 at approx €3,300/m²/year.

The street was named after Henry FitzRoy, 1st Duke of Grafton, the illegitimate son of King Charles II who owned land in the area. The street was developed from a then-existing country lane by the Dawson family in 1708, after whom the parallel Dawson Street is named.

After O'Connell Bridge (then called 'Carlisle Bridge') was built to span the River Liffey, Grafton Street turned from a fashionable residential street into a busy cross-city route.

The north end of Grafton Street is most notable for the eighteenth-century Trinity College Provost's House, home to the head of the college. Across the road from this is the former location of the Molly Malone statue, a well-known tourist attraction and meeting-place, which was permanently moved from Grafton Street to nearby Suffolk Street in 2014, to make way for an extension to the Luas tram system. A life-size bronze statue of Phil Lynott was unveiled on Harry Street, off Grafton Street near the Stephen's Green end, on 19 August 2005.

The street was known for prostitution in the 19th century. In the 1870s, 1,500 prostitutes were reputed to work in the street.

Bewley's Oriental Café, a Grafton Street institution since its opening in 1927, announced at the end of October 2004 that it would be closing before Christmas, along with its Westmoreland Street café. Following a campaign by many, including the then Mayor of Dublin, Catherine Byrne, the café on Grafton Street, which had closed, was reopened, including its small performance area.

Buskers, including musicians, poets and mime artists, commonly perform to the shopping crowds on Grafton Street. This was portrayed in the opening scene of the 2006 film Once, starring Glen Hansard of The Frames, a former Grafton Street busker. The pedestrianisation of Grafton Street was first trialled in 1971 but prolonged delays meant that this wasn't made permanent until 1983, and then repaved in 1988. Objections came from councillors and small business owners, who alleged that pedestrianisation would lead to an increase in petty crime and antisocial behaviour. The North end of the street, between Nassau Street and College Green is not pedestrianised.

Another great set Mark and of course you bring back connections from my youth. Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy - 'Whiskey in the Jar'; 'The boys are back in town' ) used to play at Saturday night teeny bopper dances at our local tennis club before he formed Thin Lizzy.
BTW - The McDonalds on Grafton St was the highest grossing McDonalds in the world until they opened one in Moscow. It is located in what used to be Waterford Crystal's flagship store.
What is that monstrous antenna thing hovering over Grafton St? I never noticed that before. It looks like a poor cousin of the Eiffel Tower.

Take a look at this. I don't know if it will hold the 200-500 in a vertical position, but it is padded and has separators like a regular camera bag. The bag detaches from the mount with ine click too so you can bring it with you if you lock up your bike somewhere. I an very satisfied with mine.

A not uncommon thing for me is to see a nice shot while driving, but there is no safe and convenient place to pull off. I wished I was in a motorbike and could pull off onto whatever meager strip of shoulder the road might offer me. Has any tried photography from a bicycle, motorbike or Vespa motor-scooter?

I really felt your frustration while touring around Umbria and Tuscany in a rental Alpha Romeo for my 65th birthday trip. Every turn seemed to open up amazing scenes, but nowhere to stop safely. I promised myself I would spend a month there with a Vespa when I retire - just waiting for Covit to pass.

I have this pretty cool detachable camera bag mounted on my bicycle that I use while biking around Cape Cod.

Ugly Hedge Hogs Friends
I don’t remember how I got steered on to UHH, I watched it a couple of years before I became a member. I am very happy that I did. It has given me an insight to two subjects that I am interested in: Human beings and the process of making pictures.
So being a bit philosophical of nature I did a lot of thinking about it and the people who are members and I (for myself) concluded that UHH may consist of FOUR more or less similar entities.

Number one contains what I think of as the “Crème de la crème”, the members are on first name with the gods, they know of any esoteric aspect of photography, they make comfortable livings making pictures. They have wisdom to share and do so generously, sometimes for free but also for numerations well deserved. It is a great benefit to UHH that they belong. Mostly these members are professionals

Number two contains what I think of as gifted amateurs; often they match the members of group one, sometimes in equipment, often in knowledge and in keenness in theirs asymptotic pursuit of perfection. They are as a whole generous with their skills and often take pains to explain issues to the needy.

Number tree has many “Newbies”, people who are beginners and are thirsty to gain more knowledge about all aspects of picture making. I am in awe of the patience that members of One and Two show in replying to what must often appear naïve questions that could readily be answered with a bit of work on the part of the questioner!

Number four is not generally acknowledged as being members as such. They are people who LOVE pictures (photographs) and don’t really care how they are produced. I am reminded of a member of the Supreme Court who, when asked how he defined pornography answered (this is not verbatim) that he had no verbal definition but he knew it when he saw it. For some that description also fits “Great pictures”. I think UHH may have a number of people in that category.

I am constantly impressed by the kindness and fellow feeling shown i UHH

Good observations. However, one thing that I have noticed is that Group 1 - the professionals - rarely post any photos. There are maybe a dozen contributors whose word I would take as gospel, and they can be generous with their advice and knowledge, but that group rarely post any photos to illustrate their points or even to show us what to aspire to. Pity.
