Welcome! You have captured one of my very favorite places! Love the Kennecott mine and McCarthy! Enjoy your new camera and one of the best places to capture some beautiful sights!

The questions that need answers are how many cameras were produced in the first run? An secondly, how many preorders have there been?

A concur with the others in regards to using Lightroom to catalogue your photos. It really makes it easy.

1/8000 stuck there.
I have auto ISO on. Going to change that and see if that makes a difference.

1/8000 would be your shutter speed, not your aperture. Aperture would look like 1:2.8, 1:4, 1:5.6 etc.

I normally shoot indoor basketball with a crop sensor and a high speed IOS. I accidentally took my full frame with a slower sensor and ISO. When I processed the images I could not believe how much better the full frame handled the noise.

This is exactly why, for me, a full frame for sports is much better than using a crop. The games I shoot are at night with poor lighting. I don't see a $6000 professional camera in my future, but a good full frame is so much better than one of the crops built for speed. I much prefer a clear, sharp shot over twice as many noisy shots.

Myself, I have little problem with crispness of P&S, even Mobilephone compared to a dSLR at 100% but its at 1000% that the differences show-up. These days they all have the same number of pixels (20,000,000 or so) but the size of the pixels as well as the quality of the optics determines the number of RESOLs in the images taken and, thusly, the crispness in a much-blown-up image of, say, a small bird far-away that's a fraction of the total scene. I compared an Osprey quite far away in photos taken at same time with my Sony RX10 at 600mm (35mm equivalent) and my Nikon 3300 at 300mm (35mm equivalent) with both expended to the same size -- and the osprey was slightly crisper in the D3300 images.

See, that is why it depends on one's standards. I would have a problem with a point and shoot. I am not saying you can not get a good picture with one, but I would want superior pictures from such a trip.

I think what it is really dependent on is how happy you are with your current output from your camera. I like a picture that I can view at 100% and still have a crisp, clear photo. Personally, I feel that that is hard to do on a p&s. But if you are happy with your current output, then you will be happy with it in Iceland. Enjoy your trip!

This would not make me happy and I would be returning the camera or contacting Sony for a replacement. This is no due to human error.

I use an Op/Tech rain sleeve. It came in a pack of two and I have been using one of them for the last couple of years with no problems. My camera is weather sealed, but in steady rain I use the rain sleeve. If it is only sprinkling I go naked.

I have used "P" mode. I can still make some necessary changes but do not have to think too hard.

I would calibrate the camera to the lens using the built in software rather than modifying the lens itself, which is permanent and will likely mean the lens will be off on every other camera body you mount it on. I learned that lesson the hard way.

Yes, I clarified later that it is calibrating the camera body to the lens.

Every comment says calibrate the lens - the lens! In fact, each of you apparently meant calibrate the camera body to the lens or simply, calibrate the body!

And then you accuse ME of not understanding lens calibration; you guys need to get your English on!

A lens calibration ALWAYS makes adjustments to the lens - a Camera body calibration will make changes to the BODY.

What I said - and I stand behind it - the problem is not in the lens and if you "Calibrate" the lens to the D810, then it will not then work with the D800.
Corollary: If you calibrate the body to the lens, then the lens should work on both bodies!
If I want to eat an apple, so I say I am going to ... (show quote)

I specifically stated "calibrate the lens to the body" - sorry not to have said calibrate the body to the lens. You are correct in my wording, but you obviously had no understanding of calibrating the body to the lens. So, your wrong does not make you right.

This is a case where any reasonable person would understand that the protection of one's child ALWAYS trumps the "photographer's" chances in a contest.

It is such a simple answer to this situation.
Why would you want to go against the parents wishes? How embarrassing to have your wants supersede such a simple request from the child's parent. Have some common decency!
