Nikon D500 aperture question

I’m having an issue with my D500. My guess is I have some setting set wrong that is the problem.

For some reason in manual mode and shutter mode the aperture seems to be stuck at 1/8000 no mater which lens I use or which f/stop I have set (night or day).

I’m wondering if i hit some setting that has it fixed at this aperture. I’ll take it to my local camera shop in a day or two (where I purchased the camera) if I can’t figure this issue out.

Aperture
1/8000 stuck there.
I have auto ISO on. Going to change that and see if that makes a difference.

1/8000 would be your shutter speed, not your aperture. Aperture would look like 1:2.8, 1:4, 1:5.6 etc.

I had a car like that once. I put it in drive mode and the speed seemed to stick at 120.

Reset your camera to original settings, it is a two button thing, see manual.

I didn't know the D500 had an aperture setting of 1/8000.

Same with many modern Nikon's. My D4s and D810 both have a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec. The D500 has the same processing engine as the D5 and D850, all at 1/8000 sec.

Sounds like you had the shutter set at 1/8000 where it would properly stay in manual and shutter priority modes. You were trying to change it by turning the aperture dial.

You might have had a high ISO - likely manually set. I set the ISO high (1000 - 1200) when I want to capture moving dragon flies and I get shutter speeds like that.
