I have just finished 101 days overland Istanbul to Beijing and have had my camera (5dmk111 with 24-105 lens) AND USED EVERY DAY WITH NOT A PROBLEM WHILST ATTACHED AT THE TRIPOD MOUNT, i ALSO HAD THE WRIST GRIP AS WELL AND FOUND THAT WHILST WALKING AROUND THERE WAS NEVER A PROBLEM (IN FACT FELT QUITE SECURE) oops caps lock on :-) I have also a quick connect plate for tripod mount as well fitted and never a moments worry about stress on the camera body
Go to odysseyoverland.com.uk and check the blog Istanbul to Beijing 2013 and see the results

Hi all,
getting ready for trip )Istanbul to Beijing) taking in all the "stans" except Afganistan and Pakistan for 4 months
Who has had experience with travel insurance for these areas?
Checked with my CC providor (underwritten by Allianz) and they have said that I am covered for items up to $5K per item max $15K per person or $30 K for couple, seem's too good to be true but they sent a PDS which seems to confirm this as long as I can produce the receipts for the items confirming how they were purchased ie Kit lens or seperate, 5DMKiii body with lens or just the body then the lenses purcahsed as a seperate item
you got that one :-)
but your dead along time and i know they don't put pockets in shrouds anymore so get out there and see life anyway you can
will be gone for 16 weeks if you add in the side trips b4 & after

does any one know if there's a solution to stop the 24-105 L series lens from extending whilst carrying the camera on a strap ( i currently use a blackrapid strap) i have the 100-400 L series and you can adjust the friction to prevent it extending uneccesarily
PS totally over the moon with this camera

Hi guys,
My wife and I are heading to Whistler on the 18th December for my daughters wedding on the 28th
It will be the first white Christmas for us ( have been told it will be the hottest Christmas for years here in Aust.) so I am wondering what precautions I should be taking re moisture etc to my Canon 5D Mk111 with 35-105 l series attached
I have a Digi Pro Holster for the camera whilst out and about and a Lowepro Protrek400 for all the other gear
(100 -400 l series) extra battery plus grip and AA cells
Stopping in Hawai on way back
Cheers

Having just purchased a Canon 5D Mk111 I am contemplating which Battery grip to purchase/use
Do I go with the Canon EG11 or do I go with the Hahnel HC-5D MK111 Pro
Bear in mind that the Hahnel is cheaper than the Canon option
