Having just purchased a Canon 5D Mk111 I am contemplating which Battery grip to purchase/use
Do I go with the Canon EG11 or do I go with the Hahnel HC-5D MK111 Pro
Bear in mind that the Hahnel is cheaper than the Canon option

The one you are considering appears to be good. My concern would be if you are still under warranty on the camera and you should have a problem it could effect it. My experience has been with Canon and never a problem. I do use some non Canon such as speed lights but careful what I put on my cameras.

I have used independant battery grips on every camera since my EOS 10D, and my sons Nikon has one from Ebar £20, never a moments trouble.

Remember Canon DO NOT make their own, do they.....

It is a personal/maybe a financial choice, really. I have the 5D MKiii and went with the Canon Battery grip. Yes, it is more expensive, but as a previous poster has said, if it is on warranty ...you might want to consider the Canon.
I am very happy with the Canon battery grip. It fits my hand perfectly, allows me to take vertical shots with ease and the two batteries gives me tons of time and many pics before I have to change. If you go with Canon, the only thing that will be sorry is your pocketbook, BUT you will be very pleased!!

The one on my Canon IS a Canon, and believe me it is no better than the independants, as I say Canons are made for them by someone anyway.

Hello Bod

I say yes stay with Canon as it's designed to match the 5D Mk 111 body in color and the attributes of the camera.

The after-market models can vary in quality. Look for reviews. There was one for the D7000 that worked, but the little twister for the battery(?) would break off right away. It wasn't a big problem, though. Also, it was a bit loose on the camera, so owners found that if they inserted a small o-ring, it was fine.

Some models are perfect right out of the box, but others...

I have the 5D MKIII Pro, and the Canon Battery grip! It is excellent and worth the price in my book! It is one item I do not want to be without when on a shoot!! You can't go wrong!

I use battery packs on all my Nikons for two reasons:
1- I am not as limber as I used to be, and I like the vertical shutter release.
2- It makes the camera look real cool.
