Take your Nikon gear. Even on a cruise there will be ample photo ops. Cruise stops in various ports will provide opportunities, particularly if you sign up for day tours. You might see whales leaping while cruising. You don't say which lenses you have. A wide angle to medium telephoto and a longer zoom like a 70-300 would cover most needs.Two lenses of the ranges should cover your needs, don't overburden yourself.. If you have a pocket sized P&S, it is a worthwhile backup when you don't want to pack the Nikon gear. If you list the ports you will visit, I would be happy to make some suggestions. I am a retired working professional based in the Seattle area and have been to Alaska 50 times over a 60 year period starting in 1964.

Camera Dilemma .
Got a camera from Amazon ( via third party seller ) .. was £300 ($372) cheaper than normal .. supposed to get a warranty card with it , contacted seller who said they dont have one but they will guarantee it themselves for 2 years ... Called Nikon who looked up the serial number and said it was an import from Asia ( grey Import ) so not covered by Nikon UK or EU for guarantee ... Mmm .. do I keep it and save £300 or send it back for refund ? Risk it for a biscuit ? Its a New Camera D7500 by the way not used ..

I have used the original "Nikon" straps that came with my cameras, D40, D3500, D7100 and D600, purchased in that order. Since each one has gotten larger and heavier, including the corresponding lenses, I find my neck starts to really ache after shooting for a couple of hours. I tried going without a strap but get paranoid of dropping and damage. My last purchase of a 80-200 2.8 AF-D New to go on the D600, or even the D7100 convinced me I need to come up with alternative. I do use a tripod alot but love to hike into areas for that special look. Would like to hear opinions about shoulder straps or hand straps. I do use a quality back pack but would love to be camera ready to get that perfect shot of the bear that runs me down. Thank you.
