I was wondering how many messages it would be before someone inject politics into this. Well, the answer is 3.

To the OP, good luck with your classes.

It’s mighty tough to buy anything where China isn’t making at least some of the parts or the entire item. It doesn’t matter what the Brand is on the product. Some companies have brought back to America their manufacturing, but generally those are smaller companies.
I remember how my law school roommates father, a coal miner, got really angry when we informed him that some engines in the pickup truck line he favored, were actually built in Mexico. He called us liars! The VW beetle for many years, perhaps still, were manufactured in Mexico. This was long long after VW stopped their manufacture in Germany. Many electronics have been farmed out from Japan to China. Do you think RCA TV’s are made here? How about car parts? Many are made in Asia. Alpine electronics. Check them out. The list is endless. Those who say they will boycott Chinese products better not look into where the parts come from. Many food products and ingredients come from China, as well. Boycotts? Sell your house and everything in it. Include, at least some of your clothes.
You will never drive away in a normal ordinary vehicle, either. Good luck w/ your efforts, though. I do always try to buy American where I can. I look for labels identifying products as American made, even though that is not a guarantee that the product is free of ingredients or larts from elsewhere. It is a world economy. Stopping or changing that - that ship sailed long ago.

Are you saying China is the leading country in Climate Change?? Not in the world I live in. Have you seen photos of their cities. That is a statement that is refutable.

I happened to know a bit about this topic. Before my early retirement 5 years ago, I was the Chief Operating Officer for the Solar Energy Industries Association.

If you measured it by the amount of renewable energy generated, China is #1 and the U.S. is #2, by quite a margin. Obviously, China also still uses coal in many cities, but they are trying to switch those power plants plants to renewable energy quickly, although they still have a long way to go.

If you measured it per capita, China is not even in the top ten countries in the world. The last time I looked, the U.S. is #10, with Germany on top of the list.

It's easy to dismiss China as a producer of cheap goods, but I can tell you that there are more ISO 9001 factories in China than the U.S. The solar energy industry realized 8-9 years ago that the quality of the solar panels produced in China were on par with the ones produced in America.

'Made in Japan" used to be a derisive term after WWII. Well, history has shown us.

To compete in the world, we must invest more in research and training our students to be better workers. The solar energy industry employs more people than the fossil fuel industry. Yet, many people still cling to fossil fuel (some even on coal!) to grow the economy, despite its effect on climate change and a rollercoaster history of job creation.

China. Does NOTHING unintentionally. Everything is planned. They don’t mind killing off a few hundred thousand of their own people if it supports their plan.

Wow. Now I have seen it all! How about the >150,000 deaths in the U.S.? I am sure the Chinese planned our negligence too.

And how about the much-cited Spanish flu of 1918 that originated in ..... Kansas?

Looking at the pics, I assumed you are selling qt:2 Einstein monolights. You might want to make that clear as currently it just says strobes with no quantity listed.

I (finally) got my D6 review posted! It's geared towards wildlife (surprise) and was done over a 5 week period:

https://backcountrygallery.com/nikon-d6-wildlife-photography-review/

Hi Steve, thanks for such an in-depth review. It's much appreciated. I am primarily a press photographer but do like to take shoot landscape, portraits and BIF/wildlife. I have a trio of Nikon bodies - D5/D850/Z7.

The Z7 I use primarily for work as well as landscape. The D5 for BIF/wildlife because of its superior AF than the D850. Do you think the D6 is an enough of an improvement for BIF/wildlife AF to warrant an upgrade from the D5? Or should I wait for that rumored magical Z8/9? :)

Many thanks,
Dave

Hi there.
Looking for some information on which brand
Lens is better.
The Tamron or Sigma.
The lens I'm looking for is the 70 to 200mm F/2.8.
Thank you all in advance.

Both are excellent lenses. The thing to note is the recent different philosophies of the two companies. Sigma tends to maximize sharpness, sort of quality above all, so their new Art/Sports lenses are often big and heavy. Tamron lenses are usually smaller and lighter, and IMO better ergonomically-designed. In the lens you specified, the Sigma Sports version weighs 63.7 oz. vs. the Tamon which weighs 52.4 oz. That's a difference of 11 oz. The Sigma is a little longer, by 1/2 inch.

If I were to make a choice, I would choose the Tamron, even though it might well be a tad less sharp, jsut because of the lighter weight and in my book better ergonomics. Not bashing Sigma at all, I own their 24mm/1.4 and 50mm/1.4 Art lenses.

Has anyone used the Tamron Docking Station to calibrate a tamron lens?
Was it easy to use? Did it really work and make a difference,?

Be prepared to set apart hours for each lens you want to calibrate. :)

Most of the Nikon D lenses would lose auto-focus when used with a FTZ adapter, but there are some exceptions with AF-S D lenses. I have a 400mm F/2.8D lens that auto-focus just fine on my Z7/FTZ. But in general, you'll find most of the Nikon D lenses will not auto-focus.

Also note that some new third-party lenses, such as the previously mentioned Tamron 90mm macro lens. I just bought a Tokina 105mm ATX-i macro lens and it would not auto-focus either.

But you'll find no degradation of optical quality, as well as gaining in-body vibration reduction, both major advantages. It's a new adventure using older F-mount lenses on the new Z bodies.

Very sorry for your health problems. Hope things would turn for the better soon.

The 20-35mm f2.8 is a very nice lens. It is a D lens, not G. Sort of forgotten over time but an outstanding wide angle zoon.

They are both excellent lenses. Some portraits photographers like the look shooting wide open at f1.4, with a narrower DOF and the sharpened focus on the eye of the subject. The 2/3 difference in f-stop might also make a difference in very low light situations. But for most photography, it's probably not much different between the two lenses.

We have, obviously, done a terrible job in teaching the public how science works, sadly, that makes them prey for the knuckleheads spreading false information.
