Describe "fancy". Bells and whistles? Price? Size? Number of accessories? For myself, I like to take pictures and I want equipment that I can grow into that will challenge my creativity.

Hard to imagine that they would improve on the first model. Very nice. Thanks for the quick highlights.

I had same problem on the D7100. I used swabs to clean it a few times and haven't had any more issues. I think the actuator mechanism had excess oil out of the box.

I am looking to get a long zoom. I have read about the Sigma 150 to 600 sport and the Tamron 150 to 600. Most the reviews I have read say the Sigma is sharper at 600 and has the bonus of the dock. I have seen some fantastic shots on here with the Tampon though. I am leaning toward the heavy Sigma. The price is not a big consideration, but I do not want to spend more than the Sigma. Which would you choose.

The Tamron does a great job. I have experience with the 16mm-300mm lens and have been very pleased with the performance. It took me a couple of frustrating weeks to get used to the 150mm-300mm. Once I figured it out, I have some very sharp photos that turned out good.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for sharing. I've been looking for different setups to reduce the vibration on longer lenses.

I don't overexpose, but I do expose to the limit my camera will record without blowing out details. It's called ETTR or ETBR. There are a number of articles posted here on UHH regarding those techniques. I've written one, Uuglypher has written several.

For my exposure technique, this is pretty close to perfect.

Here is my attempt using LR. The white balance was corrected and then the highlights were toned down to bring out the blue sky and some depth to the clouds. The color and saturation is off for the foliage.

I presently use a SanDisk Extreme Pro 32gb class 10 95MB/s sd card and have had no problems with it, but I am always curious if I am using the best that is available for my equipment. Any suggestions or recommendations and why, in your opinion, should I consider a change?

I have been using PNY Elite Performance in my D7100 and D810 for a few years with no problems. These SD cards are temperature proof, shock proof, magnet proof and water proof according to the manufacturer. Mine are rated at 95MB/s. PNY isn't on the recommended list so use your own judgement.

Also, the speed rating on SD cards is the max read speed. The write speed will be somewhat slower.

When you say that it blows away Tamron and Sigma, do you have examples to share?

Nikon has a 10% price reduction on refurbished products today! What a deal. Opinions on Nikon refurbished, please?

Purchased a refurbished D810 with 45 counts on the shutter at about that same price point. I've been very pleased with it.

Yes the shutter speed was different but both were high enough to cut out camera vibration. As for the choice of 400mm ... if either lens had an advantage it probably would be the Tamron. As for the aperture - all images were shot at f11 so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Did you read the original post ??

My mistake. I was looking the max aperture value that is logged in the EXIF data and confused it with the actual f number of the shot. One interesting thing I noticed is that the EXIF data is that it is showing max aperture of 5.2 for the Tamron that is supposed to be 5. Interesting.

I looked at both images. These are not an apples-to-apples comparison. The Nikon is at its max extension at 400mm with F4 aperture. The Tamron is not at its extension at 400mm with a f5.2 aperture. The Tamron fired at 1/1600 speed and the Nikon at 1/1000 speed.

I would keep all things equal for the comparison. But, in my limited experience, I would set the aperture somewhere between to f8 to f16 to sharpen the image.

Correct, it does work using BBF, on some of the newer models. It works on my D800 & D810.

That's how it works on my D810 too.
