I am looking to get a long zoom. I have read about the Sigma 150 to 600 sport and the Tamron 150 to 600. Most the reviews I have read say the Sigma is sharper at 600 and has the bonus of the dock. I have seen some fantastic shots on here with the Tampon though. I am leaning toward the heavy Sigma. The price is not a big consideration, but I do not want to spend more than the Sigma. Which would you choose.

For me, being a male having no use for tampon's I would definitely choose the Sigma. Adorama has the Sigma 150-600 on sale which includes a free dock.

You don't specify what make of camera you're using. Sigma doesn't make either of their 150-600 models with a Sony Alpha mount. The TamRon 150-600 is very sharp across the full zoom range. B&H & Amazon have the same offer with the free dock so, it's not something unique to Adorama.

The Tamron is most closely matched by the Sigma Contemporary.

And the Sigma Sport is more closely matched by the Nikon 200-500, which are a bit better than the above mentioned.

The Sport performs best at the 600 end, over the Tamron or Contemporary. Though for most people, the Tamron or Contemporary are perfectly fine lenses and will not disappoint them.

I settled on the Sport and it performs even better than I hoped for, and I was expecting a lot :wink:

BTW, you can get the Sport version (like new refurb) for $1500 shipped directly from Sigma. They go in and out of stock almost daily though.

Have you looked at the Contemporary version of the Sigma? It's half the price of the Sport, works with the dock, and from what I've read, has a wider available aperture in the middle of the zoom spectrum.

Didn't intend to move you away from Adorama. They have an outstanding reputation. If any one of the A, B, C crowd has a good deal, all three likely have the same deal. (A, B, C = Adorama, B&H, Cameta and Amazon thrown in for good measure).

Don't forget to leave some $$$$ in the budget for a decent tripod and head. Hand-holding a 600mm lens, even if it is a lightweight like the Sigma Sport at 6.3 lbs - gets really old after the first 15 mins.
