Hi my name is Vicky & I love to take photos of almost anything. But I have tried to take pics of the moon, & I can see more details with the naked eye, than when I take a pic. Can anyone tell me what setting I need to use to take a great pic. I have a Canon D3400, I know it is me not knowing what settings I need to use to make my moon pictures turn out more that a bright glow in the dark. Help please...

If you are shooting in aperture or shutter priority you must use minus exposure compensation probably 2 to 3 full stops to darken your image (your camera light meter is going to average the vast dark background and the very bright moon) and provide an exposure that will try to brighten the dark background thus making the moon over exposed. With aperature or shutter priority you set either the aperture or the shutter and the camera will set the other again to give you an exposure that makes the moon too bright). If you shoot in manual mode then you can set the pointer on your viewfinder light meter 2 stops or possibly 3 under exposed. The opposite of this is having a very bright background which will provide subjects that are silhouetted. To override with Exposure comp you would over expose 1 to 2 or so stops....

A wonderful composed scene. My goal in editing was to emphasis the moody feeling of the storm. Work was all done in lightroom a fair amount of dodge and burning and fine tuning the lighting. I hope that you like it.

I have an rx100 m3 and yes I've got very detailed landscape photos printed on metal at 16 x 24 and you would be hard pressed to tell whether it was taken with my full frame 43 megapixel camera or the rx100.

also the rx100 vii is announced and will be available in a week or so and it is the same price as the vi it has a better sensor and much faster autofocus shoots 20 frames per second and does excellent tracking of moving subjects and eye autofocus for people and pets. If I was buying I would get the vii or see if the vi goes down in price once the 7 is shipping.

I started out with the intention to use sharpening, clarity and the new texture slider to bring out the detail in the rock formations and get some separation and contrast. I used large size brushes in conjunction with automask and range mask with luminosity to hit the dark elements and then a second one to hit the lighter tones. (a Quick way to dodge and burn). I refined the colors to get some separation using HSL and here are the results all done in lightroom without any presets...

I've tried several sources for learning photoshop- Kelbyone, Phlearn, Piximperfect, Lynda.com, and all have there pluses and minuses. I finally came across Ben Willmore on creative live and took his very thorough and well taught PS bootcamp. If this peaks your interest than keep an eye on creative live and pick it up on one of their frequent sales. the course includes all the photos, the videos and full transcripts plus other handouts.. Ben moves slower than some of the others and tells you where to find things what keys on the keyboard he is hitting and holding down. I highly recommend it. As a result of this course I finally learned enough about PS to be able to comfortably use it with layers, masks etc in a fairly non destructive way....

here is a suggestion. Go buy an external hard drive (SSD if you can) store your photos and and catalog on it and back both up to another drive and/or one drive. you can then plug the drive into the laptop or the tower and lightroom should work fine with either. Labeling the drive letter towards the end of the alphabet like x or y will prevent the drive letter switching on you when you move it between computers..

I have an rx100 m3 I have a beautiful AZ landscape enlarged as a metal print to 16 x 24 and it looks great. Low light and high iso will be a little noisy but well lit shots.... not a problem... I will add that it is a great little camera. I typically shoot in raw and manual mode with it and the results are consistently quite good.. Would love to grad a m6 or 7 for the extra reach maybe someday

a very serene scene. I simplified by removing some of the 'distractions along the shore line, doc, lamppost and altered the lighting, to enhance the serenity. Very nice photograph.....

I am sure that's what happened. I was shooting quite a few shots and the venue was very dark. I will email Customer Service at Adorama and see what they will do, if anything. Bought it Nov. 21, 2017 as a back up.

adorama has a special department that handles the flashpoint repairs. I've been using them for a while now and have not had any problems... I dropped by ad200 once and had to send it in for repairs, since it was my fault (I dropped it), it was not covered under warranty but the replaced it at a much reduced cost for me.... most people in one of my photography clubs use the flashpoints and nobody has had any problems...
