Moab is one of my favorite places. I agree with the suggestion to skip the lower part of Canyonlands. Instead go to Fisher Tower -- especially if you are a climber. The tower can be seen in a number of commercials. You will want a long lens. Getting there can be fun.

If it were possible, I would and did shadow my late friend Galen Rowell. We had some great times. Also Gary Hart, Greg Vaughn, Laurent Martres and, of course, the awesome George Lepp whose guidance helps me almost every day.. Keeping the list short because there are many.

Good advice all around. That time of year, a wide angle is very important but you will want a 70-200 or 300 for the waterfalls. Be sure to keep your batteries warm. The cold really does eat up batteries.

Kodachrome Basin state park is just a short distance from Bryce. Several good locations in that state park.

I have used Topaz plugins for several years. Denoise 6 is the best noise program I have used and I think their tutorials can be helpful. Also, customer service is quite good.

I have been seeing promotions for Arsenal online. They make some impressive claims. Although I tend to trust my own Canon gear and techniques, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with Arsenal. Does it really do what they claim?

Topaz Labs seems to be making some really good use of AI. I am impressed by what I have seen.

I did not realize there were bristlecones in Cedar Breaks. I have shot them extensively in California's White Mountains. I guess I will have to stop by Cedar Breaks the next time I am in the area.

Although I have a good printer and plenty of high grade paper, I now usually encourage clients to use metal prints. That said...metal works extremely well for landscape and wildlife which is what we shoot and I cannot make assumptions for other types of photography, although I suspect that architectural style images also would look extremely good.
I did some testing with Costco but was not all that impressed. Relatively inexpensive but doubt their prints would look that great at 16x24 or larger. We use Artbeat Studios in Orange County,California, and never have been disappointed. They do good work.

Always keep in mind that any photos that you post from the zoo should include the notice that these are captive animals so that no one is misled about where the shots were taken. Also, many zoos require releases regarding on how photos can be used. Since this is a planned shoot by a local camera store, I assume they have covered the releases but you may want to check.

I mostly use it when shooting with long lenses and/or using an extender. For those lenses it find it more reliable.

I am with the Canon 100-400 II folks. Outstanding lens and the newer 1.4 extender by Canon works very will with it. Good sharpness across the board.

Joe....I am a landscape shooter and you do need to consider weight. Hiking over hill and dale can get wearisome. I am partial to the Canon 5D MarkIV. Excellent quality and the weight is manageable. As for lenses a wide angle in the 16mm or 17mm range will be fine but you may find you also want a longer zoom on your tripod from time to time. I have had good results with Canon 70-300 but there also are a number of other options. A split neutral grad filter can be very useful.

The 70D is the latest Canon apc camera body and it is outstanding. I actually replaced my much noisier 7D with the 70D for shooting birds and other wildlife. As for the very good 6D, it shoots with very little noise and, since it is full frame, you can crop your images in Photoshop and get essentially the same result as using an apc camera.
