Just out of curiosity, do many of you use back button focus, and if so, what do you liked or dislike about the feature?

All of my cameras are set with back button focus. It took a bit to get used to it, but once I did, I can not imagine going back to half button focus. The advantage is you may acquire focus, then reposition for composition without losing focus on your subject, you have instant ability to manually focus without needing to turn of auto focus, you may hold the back button focus for continuous focusing on moving subjects. If you decide to try it, take your camera out for a day and make yourself use it all day. Take lots of photos so you get used to it. I think you will like it.

If you do BIF, back button focus is the only way to go. I use it exclusively on both cameras.

Back button focus allows me to set the exposure and the focus at different points in the image scene.

I love it! I have back button focus setup on my Nikon D500 -- I agree with Orrie...once you get used to it you will like it.

I have switched to using it on my D7000. The only drawback is that the live view switch is quite close to the AE-L/AF-L button, and I hit that sometimes by accident. Otherwise, I'm finding it to be a big improvement over the shutter release method.

I use it on all my cameras, but big fingers sometimes hit the wrong button, and then wonder what is going on!

Same here. It took me a while to get comfortable with it, but I generally use both spot metering and focus, often on different points.

One other thing - I don’t like to take my eye from the viewfinder, so I’m a button guy. Practice till you can do it in the dark without thinking.

My digitals have it. Pain in the ass to use. I rely on the shutter release pressed 1/2 way to focus.

I use it exclusively. My reasons have been mentioned already.

Use it and love it. Easy to focus on the subject and then recompose for the framing of the shot. Also use for BIF and under breezy conditions by keeping the button depressed so it is constantly focusing. Check out Steve Perry's website for lots of info on it and setting it up.

Ditto, Back button focus on both my Canon Bodies. Also, continuos shutter(slow on 77D) and AI Servo focus method. Took me a month of shooting to get fully use to it (muscle memory). I do shoot a lot of moving subjects. I will never go back.

Yes, it does take some getting used to ... and well worth it.
If you ask someone to take a picture of you (with your camera) , you do have to remember to
show them how to focus before taking the picture.
