theglove, I also lived in Omaha, AR and was the first to build on what is now called Homestead Lane on the way to Denver. A pellet stove would have been nice in that area. I now live in Middletown Springs, VT and like you recently bought a pellet stove. Mine is an Englander from Home Depot and seems to be doing the job. Pellets here are $239/ton on average in this area. I would suggest having extra shear pins and an auger motor on hand since both can break or stop. For the price the Englander (also called Summer Heat) is the most popular in the U.S. and outsells all others combined. Admittedly, there are better stoves, but for my money they do a good job.
Amazing work, Tom. As a woodworker myself, I am envious of your talent and the obvious love you have for this project. Keep up the good work. It will keep you young and inspired not to mention deeply satisfied.
It seems to me that a hot air balloon was in Marvel Cave in Silver Dollar City near Branson, Missouri many years ago.
You are absolutely right Kentee. AMAC is the way to go. Until AARP takes a more neutral, or better yet a right lean, they will not have my support. AARP is not worth it.
Vermont, the most liberal of all states, doesn't require one. Who would have guessed?
Dave, I am in agreement that there are benefits to be had from diversity, new ideas, thinking outside of the box, etc. We are also in agreement that there are those who are unable to see or to learn from their own mistakes. These poor souls have a way of weeding themselves from the general population (see Darwin). Unfortunately, along their path to self-destruction they cause so much stress and aggravation among the rest of us who lack the patience to watch and feel the responsibility to clean up the liberal mess.
I can assure you that Eliza Snow was not talking about her own mother in that hymn. Most of the world with few exceptions would consider The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a Christian religion. They believe in the Bible, have faith in Jesus Christ as their redeemer and do much good in the world. They do respect your religious beliefs though they may differ in ways that you consider important, but then so do all Christian faiths differ in various ways from each other.
In reference to the original topic, there is at least one Christian religion that believes in a Heavenly Mother as well as a Heavenly Father. I offer the lyrics of a popular hymn written in 1845 by Eliza Snow:
After discussing pre-mortal existence and a sense of belonging to "a more exalted sphere" in heaven, stanza three reasons that if there is an eternal Father there must also be an eternal Mother:
I had learned to call thee Father, Through thy Spirit from on high,
But until the key of knowledge Was restored, I knew not why.
In the heavens are parents single? No, the thought makes reason stare!
Truth is reason, truth eternal Tells me I've a mother there.
As an infrequent contributor I do enjoy the discourses here on UHH's Chit Chat. The more unprovable a topic, the greater the intensity of the arguments by some contributors. Why is this?
I think this is a good example of people voting based upon issues and not race. It eliminated Wilson being voted against because of his race, whereas, Obama collected a good many votes because of his race.
Sorry to say, race fans, but the outcome of this competition, while somewhat interesting, is about as important to most Americans as the World Frisbie Championship, the Chinese National Ping Pong Tournament or a Mexican Cock Fight. For those who are into the Americas Cup . . . enjoy and have fun, but most of the world doesn't give a hoot.
On my first job as a college coach I was told it was essential to make friends with the maintenance crews. I ventured down to their building and across one wall was a sign than read: "Cursing is the sign of a small mind trying to express itself forcefully." That was 50 years ago and whether by habit or a lack of a better vocabulary, I tend to agree with that explanation for such language.
I suppose that like Obama you want to bomb me too, bubba.
