I've belonged to AARP since I reached that magic age. Now I'm wondering if I should continue with it. Sure, I can get a discount somewhere, but I can get the same discount from AAA or other organizations. When their newspaper comes, it just goes onto the recycling pile.

Am I missing something?

I belonged for a year then discontinued it. My husband gets us better discounts through his job.

I heard some outfit advertised on the radio the other day called Emac of Imac or something along those lines.
They are similar to AARP but they may not get you as many discounts.
AARP supported obamacare.......

I get a free donut with a large coffee purchase by showing my AARP card from Dunking Donuts, so I am keeping mine.

Wow! Do that a couple of times a week, and you come out ahead. As a matter of fact, if I stand outside the store and offer to get coffee and a donut for people, I could make enough to buy a new lens - eventually.

McDonalds has what they call a Senior Coffee. It costs about $.59.

It looks like that expired in 2013.

Indeed you are! You are missing the far left political agenda of AARP. They have never seen a liberal proposal they didn't like and were major supporters and contributors to the passage of Obamacare. Better to support AMAC whose agenda is in line with the needs and beat interests of all mature Americans.

AARP started out as a way to sell life and medical insurance and use the profits for, I believe, the Colonial Penn Insurance Company. The insurance company and AARP biggies parted company years ago but the political agenda lives on. They are still one of the major sellers if insurance in the US and garners large profits from that endeavor, all under the phony guise of advancing the interests of mature Americans.

I'm tempted to put a trash can out by my mailbox. Then I won't have to carry the AARP mail into the house to toss it in the trash.

If you should ever be interested in a Jacuzzi walk-in tub, I just saved $500 by showing my AARP card.

I've been getting AARP invitations for the last 5 years, and I still have 8 months to go before I'm eligible for a senior anything. They must be desperate for new members.

I've always wondered how those work, sitting in soapy water while all the water drains out so I could open the door.

I've only used it once since it's been installed but yes, you do have to wait until the water is drained, full, it's about 50 gallons. I had to buy a walk-in and chose this brand.
