I shoot my sons track and field events indoor and outdoor. You need different lenses for different venues. In track and cc, the suns position changes as you scurry to get a shot in the woods, around the bend or your athlete I backlit with the sun behind them dependent upon where say the jump pit or home base is at a certain time of day.

I own a crop sensor dslr that allows lenses that are meant for full frame sensors to gain extra reach in magnification. For example, my 70-200mm becomes a 300mm at the long end when mounted on a smaller ( crop) sensor body. My canon body has a burst rate of almost 5 frame per second. So you need to be able to capture sports with fast shutter speed to freeze action and fast frames per second.

When choosing a lens, a lot of the time the games are late afternoon where the sun sets early in the Northeast and your available light diminishes quick. Courtesy to athletes ask that no flash is used, so you need a lens that can pen its aperture wide aka 2.8. These fast lenses can let in more light than middle of the road lenses that can open u to only 5.6. That's where the expense is... My 70-200 is a 4.0L ( professional) lens that coste $1,300 alone. This lens is not the best for indoor sports but I bum my ISO u and tweak the images in post recessing to fix the exposure.

I know this is long, but Sony has a camera with interchangeable lenses that can handle low light without breaking your bank acct.

Jerry, I bought the Logitech wireless "anywhere" mouse that doesn't have a rollerball and can be used on almost any surface. I downloaded its app and customized its speed and buttons. I've paired it with my MacBook Pro and sometimes it does lose its signal , but then you just take the small receiver in/out of your USB port and it's fine. I don't think that would happen on a PC. I bought a Logitech gaming mouse at first because of the sensitivity it has for fine detail work. But that mouse was like a Mack truck in my hand and your palm position was cupped over the entire mouse rather than holding it by the claw method. My hand soon became tired and we all know that can't happen when editing large batches. Again,I'm comfortable with my Anywhere MX mouse that I actually got from Walmart for around $50. Good luck!

Love the colors and even the blacks without pulling the shadows. I've got the Siggy 17-50 2.8 too. How do you like it? I shoot Canon and find the skin tones are on the pink side with this lens compared to my L grade lenses. I've had to make color adjustments in camera to combat it. How are the colors on the Nikon?

Love the lighting. Did you use a reflector? Just for info, in NY you can be fined for standing on active train tracks. Also a teacher/ photographer was hit and killed about a year ago on active track.

Her left arm looks a little wonky, can you use the liquefy tool in PS to make it more uniform to the other? Again, love the lighting and clean edits.

I own a 60D and formerly owned an XTi. I loved the larger lcd screen of the 60D and welcomed the smaller body size and grip similar to the rebels. The 70D will be a smidgen smaller than my 60D. The 7D is a bit larger but is awesome for sports photography with its screaming fast fps. I shoot sports witj a canon L lens and I really would like the ability to select focus pt expansion for this purpose on the 70D. The upgrades from the 60d to the 70D are worth the extra $ for me....wifi, aadvanced AF system and the digic5. The 70D is a definate video camera and has wonderful aspects to it. Howevr, I dont shoot video...so I wouldnt take advantage of the live view on lcd. The 70D is on my wish list!

I copy but not to dng. My raws from my canon 60D stay cr2 in the program's default colorspace. Dng is just for archival purposes where it is a universal interface for future programs.

I watched a few minutes of a LR5 presentation yesterday, and the presenter said that with LR5, most people will not need PS.

How so? I havent looked at the upgrade yet. Does it do layers, jdr, panorama or composite capability? Thats why I have PSE & LR4 together.

I like the "grunge" look. I dont typically shoot from an angle wherr you can see into the subj nostrils like in image #1. The lady image is beautifully dramatic.

Heres what I do, and its probably not the best method. I usually stand at the counter to use my laptop (Im short, so Im not bending over much) and I set my monitor so its 90 degrees from the keyboard. I then look at the monitor, and as I stand back up, I adjust the monitors angle to mimic what I saw bending over and vieeing the 90 angle. It works for me.
