I am an amateur photographer, mostly taking pictures of my own sons and family. My sons are college baseball players, possibly going to the next level of play after college. I want the best camera and lens for taking pictures through fencing, nets, etc. and getting great action shots during play. The camera I use is basically a point and shoot - Kodak easy share Z710 so I don't really know where to start looking for a "real" camera! HELP...please and thank you!!!

Cant help without knowing a budget $1000 or £100000
$1200 or less, if possible. Willing to look at everything though!
Or more than $1200, I really want to use it, get great pics, and have it for a long time and be able to add to it. So $1200 or less might be unreasonable for what I am asking, I just don't know!!!
Look for high FPS. Get a memory card that can keep up with the camera. Do you expect to be zoomed in on your boys, or take some wide angle shots too?

In all honesty, pre owned D7000 body and Sigma 120-400 or 150-500

I got my Nikon Refurb D7000 from B&H for $619.
More zoomed in shots, but some wide angle as well
Will you be shooting in full sun or stadium light. The reason I ask is that it will make a difference in your lens choice. The "faster" lenses let in more light so you can shoot using stadium lights but they are also a lot more expensive.
So much GREAT info! Thanks! My search has begun!
Mostly full sun, but could be stadium light in future. So I need a different lens for full sun versus stadium lighting?
So a lens 120-400 is faster and lets in more light whereas the a lens 18-105 is slower and better in full sun? If I could only get one right now would it be worth it to get the 120-400 for mostly full sun or start with the 18-105 and add a 120-400/150-500 later?
