Happy to be back. Figured I would start off with a sailboat, abandoned and washed up on the shore in SW Florida. Please... any critique welcome. Always looking to do better. Lots to learn. Canon 28-135 IS lens on T3 (crap camera... liked my XTi over this one). See you in many more posts soon.

I too like the composition. Nice photo.

Mine was the Alamo, I didn't read the signs, to busy clicking away.

Mine was Hubbell Trading Post. Didin't read the sign but when I got the photo developed, The sign was right in the middle of the picture. They allow photos to be taken but not with flash. I just walked in and started to " flashing away ". They were quite nice about it but did ask me not to use the flash anymore.

8 people stopped to see if I was ok. That was nice. I still shook for a half hour. 70 mpg up in Wisconsion. Nice sunny day. Missed the tree, the fence and the ditch. Missed a bridge by about 1 minute. Best part... No tickey.

Glad you're ok.

This were taken with a Hasselblad XPan, a 35mm camera that takes two negatives side by side. A little known fact, the camera features 3 lenses, long gone, the sell around $2,500 right now.

Interesting. Didn't know they made such a camera. I always thought that Hasselblad only made medium format. Nice images also.

Your photo is great and the first 10 words in your description brought back many memories. I have in the past spent countless hours sitting waiting to get a truck loaded at produce sheds, meat packers, and also paper mills. The worst back in the day were the meat packers, they were so bad that we went and got motel rooms because you were going to be there for a couple days waiting for a load of swinging meat. I am now retired and do not miss the waiting. May the LORD be your co-pilot and keep you safe.

Been there done that also, only didn't have to wait days. Ditto on the stay safe and keep it between the lines.

...not to go to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park.

#1: Its 65 (or whatever) miles from Moab! That's an hour and a half --minimum-- hours of precious driving time, during which you have to go past the Cameo Cliffs and Muleshoe Canyon and a bunch of other essentially uninteresting areas while you could've gotten to Arches NP in a matter of minutes. Along with roughly 14,867 other people, all of whom are lined up at the TWO entrance booths Arches has to offer.

#2: After turning off the 'highway' (harrumph; all two lanes of it), you have to go past Marie's Place and through Photograph Gap under the disdainful eye of the Abajo Mountains (and, at dusk, herds of deer that number in the hundreds). Before long, you exit Hart's Draw and you drop into Indian Creek Canyon, a known yawner of a canyon with nothing whatsoever to see. Once it opens up, its all cow country, right up to the Park Boundary, and you know how dreadful that can be.

#3: The Needles is predominantly a backcountry place, and everybody knows: if its more than ten feet off the (paved) road, it isn't photogenic.

Attached are three images to illustrate ways I wasted a whole day. And didn't even go into the Park.

Well, I must say. If I'm going to waste a day, That would be the way to do it. Nice images.

Went to the Fireman's Association Of The State Of New York museum yesterday, a few miles from my home to see what results I could get shooting interior shots with no flash in low light. Did a slight bit of PP'ing in LR, but, since I am just learning the program I didn't do much. Comments in that regard welcome.
The museum honors the volunteer firefighters of NY State.
It was considerably darker in the museum then what the camera makes it look.
Shot RAW, on a tripod, at f/11 and 100 ISO. EOS R with EF 16-35 f/4 L.

I generally stick to batteries from the camera manufacturer. However, I chanced across a link online to a Duracell battery that is 50% the cost of the manufacturer's battery for one of my cameras. With Duracell being a name brand, I wonder if it’s worth spending the extra money on OEM? Does anyone have any experience with Duracell brand batteries made for cameras, or in general just have thoughts to share?

Thanks!

I usually use Duracell and they seem to last.

Nice shot. I have not seen this bridge in Gettysburg. I'll have to make the trip. Maybe I'll also have to stop and get a chili hot dog at my favorite lunch shop in town.

I am in Chicago for a quick visit with some relatives. Had to take advantage of the opportunity to get a shot of the Chicago Skyline. This was taken last night at 8:30 p.m. It was 6 degrees at the time of the shooting.
Lake Michigan was frozen and made what I thought was a pretty good foreground.

Nikon D810 with 24-70 lens. Focal length 40mm, ISO 100, Shutter 20 seconds and F5.6
I didn't need more DOF since the skyline was at infinity and with the focal length at 40mm my closest foreground object was still in focus.

Please use the download.
Thanks for looking.

I agree that the frozen river made an excellent foreground. It is an excellent shot. Would be proud to hang that one on my wall.
