This is not a 'free for all'.

This will avoid all the conflicting answers. All mentors have serious credentials.

Is there a way to ask follow-up questions without starting a new post or using PM?

Also, can you ensure that there is rough equivalency in mentors between Nikon and Canon experts. Looks like there is a significant tilt towards Nikon.

Anyone who has read my initial post knows I love the state I live in. But I have also loved visiting other places, backpacking the Appellation Trail, Glacier NP, Peru, backpacking the Tetons,Washington DC, Alaska, Just to name a few. There are several places on my bucket list, for example, Everglades, rolling hills of the mid west, and Dakotas, that said right now my top two places would be north east states in the fall, and Antelope Canyon AZ. (don't think I will ever make the Wave, odds are too high and I have never been that lucky playing the power ball lottery). A lot of people on this site have done some traveling, whether you have or not, what would a realistic or semi realistic for your bucket list destination be to photograph?

I forgot to mention that 10 secs is sometimes not enough time to run from camera to portrait pose if camera is set far away from subject with a zoom lens. Thus the need for a remote controller that works in 10 sec mode.

The range of this remote is 16 feet, so if you don't have enough time to get from the camera to the subject, perhaps you are more than 16 feet from the camera. This could also explain why the remote does not always activate the trigger, since it is out of range.

If you set the camera to the 10 second mode, and the remote to instant, wouldn't the remote activate the shutter button instantly, and since the camera is set for 10 seconds, take the picture 10 seconds later?

Could be a number of things. The 200-400 isn't known for it's sharpness at longer distances either (say 30 meters +). Still, I'd look at AF Fine Tuning. The D850 has the auto AF Fine Tune option, you can see how to use it here:

Good suggestion. If AF fine tuning does not work, try re-calibrating your lens.

I thought the iphone wasn't that good as a camera and actually its not bad.
The first thing to look at is the resolution 3200 by 2400.
The standard for looking at an image viewing distance 25cm ect...

can simply be put as print at 300 dpi and for the iphone 3200 by 2400 = 10.66 inches by 8 inches
if you want to print larger you are supposed to view from further away so you can use a lower dpi and this you would do even with a dslr.
Base iso on a iphone is just iso32 and it rapidly deteriorates even 80 iso looks noticeably worse, by iso 200 you are looking at about the same noise as a dx dslr at 1600 or a fx dslr at 3200 it doesn't matter.

The lens is a very wonderful fixed aperture f1.8 its fast and that allows it to shoot in pretty low light its field of view is that of a 28mm lens on an fx camera. But usually on a 28mm you would be at a max aperture of f2.8 you are over a stop faster with the iphone. So the dslr needs a higher iso match the iphones faster lens for the same exposure. low light is a weakness on the iphone but its still able to cope fairly well with moderate low light.
Diffraction depends on aperture and a dslr can be diffraction limited as you reduce the aperture. the iphone has a fixed aperture the airy disk size never is an issue. Depth of field is limited by the circles of confusion which size depends on the airy disk size which is controlled by Aperture.
well at 1.8 focusing at 10 feet and blown up to 8 by 10 the iphone image is all in apparent focus.

You can find issue with noise on the iphone it cannot do as well as a dslr in low light but the lens aperture really helps to keep the iphone in the game.
obviously you are limited to the field of view of a 28mm or a 56 if you have the version with 2 lenses on the back and you can't really have a shallow depth of field. The actual focal length ensures that.

But in the end in reasonable light the iphone camera is a great little camera and can produce great results. Other cell phones may have camera's equally as good. This honestly was not what i wanted to hear, but there is quality in these little cameras.

Which iPhone model are you talking about? If it is the iPhone X, that's a $1,000 investment (even the 8 is about an $800 investment).

And what about the crappy sensor?

High Urinals

A group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, accompanied by two female teachers, went on a field trip to the local racetrack, (Churchill Downs ) to learn about thoroughbred horses and the supporting industry (Bourbon), but mostly to see the horses.

When it was time to take the children to the bathroom, it was decided that the girls would go with one teacher and the boys would go with the other. The teacher assigned to the boys was waiting outside the men's room when one of the boys came out and told her that none of them could reach the urinal.

Having no choice, she went inside, helped the boys with their pants, and began hoisting the little boys up one by one, holding on to their 'wee-wees' to direct the flow away from their clothes.

As she lifted one, she couldn't help but notice that he was unusually well endowed. Trying not to show that she was staring the teacher said, 'You must be in the 5th grade.'

'No, ma'am', he replied. 'I'm riding Silver Arrow in the seventh race, but I appreciate your help.'

One plus is that it accepts EF lenses, so you will be able to use better lenses if you have a digital Canon (or, if you plan to upgrade to a digital SLR in the future, you will be able to use the lenses from this camera.)

Bottom line is I think you can do much better for a bit more money. Have you considered the Canon AE-1?

Agree. The AE-1 is a classic SLR, but uses FD lenses. This may be good because they are generally cheaper. Down side of FD lenses is that they will not work on a more modern DSLR if you buy one in the future.

If this is true, why do good photographers buy good cameras? They must be pretty stupid to spend all that money, when a bad camera will suffice.

Apple certainly seems to think so. How else do you justify a $630 profit on a $1,000 iphone X?

Probably best selling price will be found on eBay. It takes: Good images, Good description, provenance, honest evaluation of condition. Try to get an accurate estimate of shipping costs and state them or include them in your offer. Then, when you get an offer, research the buyer's ratings before accepting and shipping. Use PayPal in spite of the PayPal commission since there are guarantees.

After a few bad experiences, I will never buy anything from eBay. Their customer service is pathetic, and they pretty much don't care about buyers.
