No serious effect. If you see it in the middle of the optical elements try giving the lens a little slap and see if that dislodges it to the side of the barrel just to be sure its not in the light path.

Thanks, that is what I did. The hair seemed to be on one of the internal elements just shy of center. I tapped the lens and now do not see it anywhere. I noticed it last night while looking at the lens under a light. Thought it was a scratch at first. So far I have been using the lens and have not seen any anomalies I could associate with the hair. Damned if I know how it got inside there! Maybe it was made with it. Who knows .........

I have a Nikon 180mm 2.8 lens which seems to have a hair floating around inside the lens. Sometimes it is on the glass and sometimes it is on the side. Am I correct this hair will have no effect on the lens operation and quality?

Thanks

I NEVER rely on any professionals review unless they have lots of charts and data which does not happen too often. In my opinion too many of these so called professional reviewers are bought and paid for. I usually go for the user reviews from people who have actually bought the device and have really used it. Too many times when a product is reviewed, what is said is only what people want to hear.

Just my 2 cents ...........

For those of you who don't know him, David Pogue is a "Personal Tech" columnist for the NY Times. If I read his columns on a regular basis, I'd have closets full of wonderful gadgets and more full credit cards than I have now. It was his column on the Sony RX-100 that almost persuaded me buy one. Ditto for his RX100 II column. Before he wrote about the RX-100, he teased us by saying that he was going to be writing in a future column about the best pocket camera ever made. Right then and there, I knew I just had to have that camera - whatever it was

Everything he writes about, he loves. He doesn't do actual reviews or comparisons. He doesn't say, "Yeah, this is pretty good, but it has it's drawbacks. You might want to consider Brand X, too." Instead, since he loves the product, he raves about it, and I find it hard to resist buying.

If money were no object, I would probably buy 90% of the tech that he writes about, but I find that he is helping me to develop some resistance and will power. Maybe if I had his income, I'd buy more freely. Maybe.

Lens is in excellent condition

B&H USA price new is $899, I am asking $600 plus shipping.

Built in Lens Hood (included)has been removed by Nikon Prof. Svcs as it interferes with use in a sound blimp. It can be reattached by a prof. camera service technician. I prefer the screw-in lens hoods as they are larger and provide more shade protection.

Comes in original box with leatherette carrying case (never used), 72mm lens cap and LF-1 rear cap.

This particular lens is exceptionally sharp, very bright at f2.8 and not too heavy.

I just picked up one for $375 in mint condition with the caps and hood still attached. The $899 price is for the "D" version. $600 is too high. More like $450 since there is a case and box.

Just picked up this lens for $375 in mint condition but I do not know if this was a good deal or not. So far I love it as it is so sharp. Best lens I have had to date. Anyone else have any experience with this lens?

Hi Everybody: Looking for suggestions, thoughts etc. about the lens in question. First will it be useful for indoor basketball games. (Low light). Second will the auto-focus work on my D-90? Thanks for your input.
The lens I am thinking of buying is AF-S Nikkor 50mm f 1.8 G.

The 50mm 1.8G is a nice lens but if your camera has a drive motor look at the 50mm 1.8D instead. Same excellent results for about $100 less.

Picked up my D300 & think I understand what you are referring to . It's not a "black square" as much as it is a little "box" & as others have said, it is the focus point that the camera uses. Simply ignore it if you have manual focus lenses on...

Thanks for the info. I have found out from Nikon the same thing. It is NOT an item which can be turned off. I just work around it.

I would really rather not see it at all BUT I will try your suggestion.

Thanks

Sometimes I think Nikon service is run by idiots. I ask Nikon the same question I have ask here and my response was I needed to send my D300 in for service and they would check it out. Scarey ............

I have read other articles around the web and no one has figured out how to turn off the square. Maybe it can not be disabled.

This may be a weird question but anyone know what ISO equates to the human eye?
