OBJECT IN LENS

I have a Nikon 180mm 2.8 lens which seems to have a hair floating around inside the lens. Sometimes it is on the glass and sometimes it is on the side. Am I correct this hair will have no effect on the lens operation and quality?

Thanks

No serious effect. If you see it in the middle of the optical elements try giving the lens a little slap and see if that dislodges it to the side of the barrel just to be sure its not in the light path.

Thanks, that is what I did. The hair seemed to be on one of the internal elements just shy of center. I tapped the lens and now do not see it anywhere. I noticed it last night while looking at the lens under a light. Thought it was a scratch at first. So far I have been using the lens and have not seen any anomalies I could associate with the hair. Damned if I know how it got inside there! Maybe it was made with it. Who knows .........

I'm sure it was. You should notify Nikon and they'll likely replace it with a new one instead of you standing around bumping and shaking it every time you use it! There's going to be a moment when it's a once in a lifetime shot that you want to take quickly and it will include the hair because you didn't have time to do your bump and shake dance routine before firing.

User, I think you should take the hair out and have a DNA analyses done, then go find the little girl that built your lens.
Depending on how much hair she has left, will tell you how many lenses she's built!
Hey, could make a great photo vacation!!

Soak the lens in Nair.
