For those of you who don't know him, David Pogue is a "Personal Tech" columnist for the NY Times. If I read his columns on a regular basis, I'd have closets full of wonderful gadgets and more full credit cards than I have now. It was his column on the Sony RX-100 that almost persuaded me buy one. Ditto for his RX100 II column. Before he wrote about the RX-100, he teased us by saying that he was going to be writing in a future column about the best pocket camera ever made. Right then and there, I knew I just had to have that camera - whatever it was
Everything he writes about, he loves. He doesn't do actual reviews or comparisons. He doesn't say, "Yeah, this is pretty good, but it has it's drawbacks. You might want to consider Brand X, too." Instead, since he loves the product, he raves about it, and I find it hard to resist buying.
If money were no object, I would probably buy 90% of the tech that he writes about, but I find that he is helping me to develop some resistance and will power. Maybe if I had his income, I'd buy more freely. Maybe.
I've never read his columns, but I'm inclined to agree with his assessment of the RX-100, though I might limit it to digital. :-)

I'm sure he's right about the RX-100 and RX-100 II. The problem is that he's too enthusiastic about too many things, and I can't afford to keep up with him! :D

I have developed the perfect camera. It not only has infinite zoom and perfect clarity it will also select and compose the absolute best shot available wherever you are. Color rendition is astounding. Plus, it will print on the spot up to 8x10. All this and it weighs 4oz and fits in your shirt pocket. It also doubles as a bottle opener. Now, I have to warn you, I only have the one working prototype so it might seem a little pricey, but what is money when you have an opportunity at the perfect camera? Just pm me and I'll let you know where to send the check. Did I mention that it shoots beautiful color in total blackness? :) :) :)

SWEET!!!!! Can't wait. I'll buy one--or two--when B&H carries it. :-D
One thing about the RX-100 is that the flash will sync at any SS. You can use the flash in ambient light and set the SS to 1/1250 @ f/5 and use flash for fill. The only compact camera I know of that will sync at high shutter speeds. This is a real + for those who learn to shoot in manual mode, you can create some dramatic effects combining ambient light with the flash at high SS.
There are so many great features with the RX-100 it would take a book to list them all.

Don't you want to beat the crowd? Be the first one on your block? have bragging rights? etc, etc. For a slight additional fee, of course!

I don't care how much it costs. Send me one right away - overnight delivery. COD.

Why couldn't I come up with such convincing lines when I was younger and hanging out in the bars? That was almost too easy! You don't even wiggle once the hook is set, do you Jerry! :) I should talk. All I have to do is walk past my computer and it brings up the B&H site! Even when it's not turned on!
Not interested.
I heard its been superceded by the one that will print at 16x24 and can be used as a "slide projector".

I believe more in testing a product I want than relying on "expert" opinions. A case in question is the lowly Olympus M43 17mm f2.8 lens that everybody seems to hate when I read the reviews in the Internet.
I got a used one for a ridiculous price, I tried it, I liked it and ever since it is the lens that I use more often with my EPL-1.

That lens and EPL-1 combo happens to be killer!

I have a Fuji X20 and it will sync at any shutter speed I choose. I understand the X100 will also.
