Hi Larry,
Thank you for your very thoughtful response.
As a professional musician, I know from experience that you have to "do the work" to improve.
Obviously this applies to photography. Knowing you camera is like knowing a musical instrument.
An oboe is not interchangeable with a violin. A piano is not interchangeable with four timpani.
A Nikon D610 is not a D750 or a D780. And a D810 is not a D850. Each camera is an individual.
So my take away from you is that I need to really get to know my D810. That makes all kinds of sense.
Thanks for encouraging me to get comfortable with the D810!
Best,
Fred

Hello Hoggers,
This is my first post for a new topic.
I have a question concerning ease of use of the new Nikon D780 vs the Nikon D810.
I've owned a D810 for about two years, have read Darrell Young's Mastering the Nikon D810
cover to cover, and have a reasonable grasp of the settings and how to use the camera.
But, I've never felt comforable using the D810.

I took a trip to Chicago in March (just before everything shut down), and the camera I took
to photograph the city was the Nikon D3300. I got great pictures. No angst, just great shots
and working in the cold as well. (I mean to share some here, soon.)
Had I taken the D810, I don't think I would have been as successful.
The D3300 was a great walk around camera paired with a DX 18-200mm carried in a Tamrac holster

So to my question:
Who among you has purchased a D780 and how does it compare to the D810 for EASE OF USE.
Ken Rockwell really likes it, but he also writes a very favorable review for the D810.
I'm actually considering selling the D810 and buying a D780.
Any advice?

I am not a professional, but I have been photographing since my first Nikon FM in the '70s.
and have a solid understanding of the photographic process including the Zone System.
Friends tell my they like my images:)

Many thanks,
Fred

Really wonderful photos. For those of us who are not birders, what kind of bird is this?

Redtagcamera does not specify that this D850 is a USA camera.
At that price, it's difficult believe that it is not a gray market version.
On the other hand, they have 67732 positives and no negative feedback.
Is this an okay deal?

Hi Sylvia,
Love the images!
Quick question, though because I'd love to shoot sunsets--
how do you compose a sunset image while remaining safe for your eyes, especially with a long lens?
Also, is there any risk to the camera sensor?
Thanks!

Re: dresser drawer hiding spot.
Our cat, Scooter, used to disappear and we couldn't find him any place in the house.
We finally discovered him in the lowest dresser drawer which had been closed.
He accessed the drawer from the bottom of the dresser behind the drawer and
climbed in from below!
Scooter also used to play hide and seek with us.
He invented the game and loved to ambush us all in fun:)

I really like both of these images. I feel pulled into the image--almost immersed, like being there in the moment. Great pictures.
Re: VIVID. Yes, that really works here.
Since you like this setting, also try LANDSCAPE for a similar effect.
Shoot comparision pictures, first with vivid, then landscape and decide which you like.

I vote for #1, especially for the wet pavement theme. It's a great shot.

Hi,
My experience with KEH was quite the opposite. I had a mint condition Nikon D90 to sell, complete with orignal box, manual, battery, and repacked as it came factory new. I had accepted their low quote pending their inspection. When I recieved the updated quote, post inspection, it was $15.00 LOWER. I asked them to reconsider and ultimately got received the orignal quote, but the experience left me with less than a favorable opinion of KEH.

One of my few criticisms of UHH is navigation.
Is there a full menu for the site?
Where is the link to classificied ads? :)
Many thanks,
Fred

Go to B&H and enter GLYPH in the search box. There are many choices available.
Glyph drives are used extensively in the audio industry because of their reliability and speed. There is no reason that they wouldn't work for photo applications as well. They come preformatted for MAC, but are easily reformatted for Windows.

An example:

I am wondering if there is a snap-on screen protector for the Nikon D3300.
I have a snap-on protector for my D810, but have never found anything similar for the D3300.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

As an audio recording engineer (on-location, classical music) for over 30 years, I can recommend CAIG Laboratories DeoxIT as an electrical contact cleaner. This is used on contacts for microphones--inputs and outputs--line level connections, switches, anything electronic.
Spray on to a Q-tip and clean gently; let dry.

CAIG Company website:

Amazon.com

This product is much better than alcohol and leaves no residue.

Hope this is helpful!
