Check Nikon's website for refurbished deals as they have them all the time and they are always changing items in stock.

You won't be sorry buying a D850. It would be a huge upgrade from the D300. Check MPB. I got a refurbished 850 for a bit less than the $2800 you mentioned. They list shutter actuation numbers for each camera they sell if that matters to you.

Is the refurbished from Nikon or the seller, any warranty or guarantee, is it from a reputable dealer
Before you pull the trigger take a look at KEH

If I remember correctly, Nikon, B&H, KEH, etc. when selling a refurbished Nikon item only offer a 90 day warranty. It's better than nothing and if it saves you 30-50% on the price it might be worth it as most of us never use the full warranty times unless we really abuse our cameras and lenses.

You can get a D4 for about a thousand dollars.

The D850 is a big upgrade from the D300. The D500 is also a big upgrade from the D300 and is the direct replacement of the D300/D300s. I used to shoot with a D300s. I was always disappointed with its dynamic range. I now have a D500. Big improvement in dynamic range.

Dynamic range: Orange line - D300, Red line D500, Yellow line - D850
Dynamic range: Orange line - D300, Red line D50...

The D850 is a great camera . I own one . Also bought a Z6 as a backup , however I find myself using the Z6 more and more. Look at mirrorless, lighter, almost was fast and your focus points cover the entire sensor. The latest firmware update (3) certainly makes the the tracking really good.

That is what I did. Couldn't be happier! No issues with camera at all. I bought my refurb from Samy's Camera. I also bought extended warranty.

Go to Ebay and get a mint one in a box. A lot less than 2800.

I'd certainly recommend the D850. Nothing comes close. However, you'll also, most likely, be looking at purchasing a couple of lenses as well.
