I live on a hill facing west and sometimes when the sunset looks promising I set my D7000 to vivid and focus on the horizon. These were was my most recent. I like the effect but wonder what others think of using it.
I think these are pretty, but perhaps a skosh overdone if I were considering hanging on my wall. Rather than using in-camera special effects, if you post-process, you have total control. If you don't like sitting at a computer, that's OK too. All that's important is to enjoy your hobby!
Verry compelling. You might try cloud mode.

I do shoot in RAW + JPEG, but sometimes I need the photo immediately, and because of THAT I do shoot with Vivid turned on. Often, my photo are a bit “flat” coming right out of the camera.

Every camera I own, from old Kodaks in my collection to my Olympus E-M5 III, is set to Vivid.
I'm not going to set them to Dull.
I tend to use Vivid a lot in my shots too.
I never use VIVID. If necessary I could use it during editing.

I just move the sliders in the editor until I get what I want.
May be vivid, may be almost vivid.
Vivid is just "preset" sliders.
My most-used camera is the D7000. Although I shoot raw and PP, I have experimented with the camera settings, both in camera, and in PP. Vivid, to my eye and screen generally overcooks the scene. An alternative and lesser boost can be found in the landscape setting.
If one has the time, PP from raw offers much more.

Every camera I own is set to "Natural".
I'm not going to set them to "Vivid", because I want a photo of what I saw, not what 'pops' for someone else.
WB raw? UniWB
WB JPG? Normal (I seldom if ever shoot JPG)
WB raw+JPG? There is no point - in my opinion. (Export to JPG is fast enough soooo... I do not shoot JPG)
Post processing brings out all I need and where I need it. A camera set to Vivid usually over processed everything and if one shoots raw, there is no point other than creating a 'vivid' starting point.

That's why I tweak in the editor, to get what "I" want.
Use vivid if that gives you what you want.
