About a year ago I compared one with a 55 f/1.4 Zeiss Otus. I bought the Zeiss.

I would expect that one of what is believed to be the best lenses ever in the Zeiss would beat the Sigma Art. That said, there is about a $3,000+ price difference. And of course the Zeiss is a purely manual lens. However, price is a consideration that most people have to take into account. I myself compared the Sigma Art 50mm to the Sony Zeiss 50mm 1.4 for my Sony a9. I looked at these two with a budget in mind. While i think the Sigma is a wonderful lens, i felt the Sony Zeiss was better. Great microcontrast, color, a bit better bokeh and that zeiss like certain something. These two lenses were both in my range of budget so I chose what I liked best. Now, i am lucky to be able to afford a budget that can have that $400 - $500 difference in affordability but i am not sure most everyone else has that ability. I certainly dont think if someone is looking at the Sigma that they have the ability to afford another $3,000+ for the Otus. If they did, they wouldnt even bother looking at the sigma.

Net, net, i think your comparison and decision is meaningless to the op and avg buyer unless they are lucky enough to have that kind of disposable income. I would say most don't have the same luxury as you.

Take a look at the Think Tank Streetwalker V2. Measures 9.8 x 17.3 x 7.1. I have one and love it. Has a pocket for your tablet and should just fit what you are looking to carry. Can also strap a tripod to it. Very comfortable to wear.

Heads up to those considering this combination. I was looking for a general "go to" lens for my "camera of a lifetime." I had to sell my hot rod '52 Ford pickup to afford it. I bought this lens thinking it was the answerer. No matter how I tried, it would not auto-focus. I contacted Canon and they were good to reply quickly. Canon does not guarantee lens compatibility with anything but their own lenses. That was not a surprise. They advise the firmware in the lens is too old for the 5D. Looking at the Tamron site I saw there are some methods for updating their lenses but it started getting complicated, questionable, and looked costly. Upon contacting the lens seller, an eBay vendor, he seemed surprised at the incompatibility but started testing other Tamron lenses in his stock with a 5D. He was kind enough to let me return the lens for refund. I like Tamron quality, and this particular lens' advertising suggested it had all I was looking for. Does anyone know: will a new Tamron, as opposed to used, work on my camera?

The answer to your problem is quite simple. The lens is for APS-C cameras only! A simple google search will give you that answer. You bought such an incredibly expensive camera and you are somehow stuck on a lens that doesnt match it? I am sorry, but how did you get stuck on a lens like this one? Didnt you research it? You would find out right away it is not a match for your camera. Lastly why would you even think of putting this lens on such an incredibly powerful camera? You wont get the most out of this camera. Sorry, but i am just being straightforward and honest.

Yes, a lot of it is due to marketing and perception BUT there is a portion of it that could be due to better features and photos.

I’ve been very disappointed with my Nikon 1 and have been looking for a really good replacement. The new Nikon Z6 and Z7 have caught my eye. But they are terribly expensive. So I am wondering if they are worth the money or if there are other great mirrorless cameras I should look at? Your thoughts.

I know i sometimes i have limited patience but really??!! You have to ask this question here on the forum. There are sonys, fuji’s, etc that all have very good reviews. You know how I know?? Its called google. Plus the nikon you have, i believe has a 1” sensor and the nikons you mention are full framed so of course they are more expensive. I think you need to get the basics down first, do some research and then come back with way more refined questions. Otherwise, all you will get is a whole lot of different opinions with no basis that may apply to you.

Hi All, I have a huge dilemma after doing a lot of research on the Sony A7lll and the Fuji XT-3! The main difference for me is the touch screen. I just cannot be quick with the Sony, I borrowed one, and found it absolutely mind boggling to change the settings. As I am a Canon shooter I found the Fuji easier. The reason for a mirrorless is that I need to carry it while hiking here in the Sierras, I just find the Canon too heavy. I realize the Sony is a full frame and the Fuji is an APSC. Would appreciate any thoughts to help me decide. Thanks in advance.

I love my Sony a7iii. Being able to use the touchscreen to move the focus point while looking through the view finder is great. Would be nice for touchscreen to do more but do be it. The camera feels great in my hands and some really great lenses. The 24-105 f/4 is a magnificent lense. If you want a smaller package overall you can switch to the 35mm f/2.8. Also a very good lens. Overall i am very pleased with the camera.

Hi. I am going to buy the Sony a6300 soon. Anyone have this? How do u like it ? I did a lot of research on it and seems to be a good fit for me. Also, wondering is it ok to buy “ open box”? I found a reliable place that has a 45 day return if it does not work correctly. Thanks for any help or thoughts!
Deb

I guess I will be the naysayer here. I had the a6300 and the colors were visibly off. Tried everything in terms of white balance, etc and still was off. I returned it. That said, maybe I just had a bad one as most everyone raves about it. I did end up jumping in on the a7iii and could not be happier. Absolutely love the camera. No issues at all.

I bought a new dji mavic 2 pro.. took it to the mountains it flew away, costing me a couple of grand. Our Amtrak ticket was no good, train ran off track and would not be able to take me to Chicago. My rental basement flooded $$$. I too old for this kind of luck in one week!

Let me try to make you feel better with the following:

- Oral surgery
- My mother passes
- Biopsy of my prostate
- Cancer diagnosis
- Hospitalized with sepsis
- Contract C-diff

All of the above in a 10 day span.

Could always be worse. I am sure others have had worse than I. Perspective.

I assume you are talking about Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas (about 20 miles east of the strip). I made a trip there about four years ago now and I carried three lenses with me that took me from 17mm to 200mm. Looking over the images I brought back from that trip I see the majority were taken at 24mm or longer although I still took several as wide as I could go at 17mm. It was nice to have that large a range to shoot with, but in a pinch (say, had my 17-35mm lens gotten damaged for instance) I could have survived with the range left to me.

An alternative to purchasing a wide lens is to rent one for the trip. If you would not normally use a super wide angle lens otherwise I would not recommend going out and buying one just for this trip. I would spend my money on polarizing and neutral density filters because the desert sun can be quite harsh, especially in the middle of the day. You might even consider driving a bit further northwest of Las Vegas (about 50 miles from the strip) and take in the Valley of Fire State Park while you are out there. Awesome red rock formations. I believe the day fee there is only $10.

Hope this is of help to you. Have a fun trip.

Yes, you were of great help. I will stick with what I have. Was actually going to purchase the filters today. Yes, I am talking about the park in vegas and Valley of Fire is on the list as well.

Go with what you've got. It's a good lens. You are going to be far enough away that you will capture what you want with that lens.

Thank you for your reply. I think I will stick with the 24-105 then.

I am heading to Red Rock National Park this weekend. Looking forward to capturing some great landscape shots. I have the Sony a7iii and the widest lens I have is a sony 24-105mm. I would like to hear from the members of the forum if you think I should be considering purchasing a wide angle zoom or if you think i am covered well enough by the 24-105mm. Thanks.

Why is it that Nikon chose to limit their latest, greatest camera to Ultra HD 4K at 30 frames per second? Why could they not include 60 fps capability?

All Nikon is offering a measly 1080/120p.

Only 3 lenses? The 24-70mm f/4 S, 35mm f/1.8 S, and 50mm f/1.8 S. No serious lenses.
All your amazing AF lenses (Millions) are paper weights as far as features etc. (I remember many neophytes being told to get the expensive Nikons so the AF lenses will work that they were wanting to buy, what a waste of money for totally obsolete junk) At least your EF lenses are 100% functional from the first ones on and actually super enhanced with the R system.

One card slot. What a complete joke. Z7 pro model with the high end sensor and one slot and an expensive XQD slot at that which is apparently becoming obsolete as well.
Wow that is a risk if you are going to do any photography away from home.

Flip out rear screen another joke. Need a fully articulating one to really be serious for vlogging and other things that a flipper is just too lame for.

From reviews thus far the video focus is as bad as ever. Again why have video if your focus is a failure.

An f0.95 Manual focus lens? Why? You bought an AF camera and get a 1930's lens.

There are no failures here. The old guard is finally recognizing the camera market has been morphing. They know alot of the diehard DSLR customers will stick with those cameras but there is a whole other market that is out there they can no longer avoid. Having the old guard jump in means competition and competition is good. They have both jumped in with some good offerings which will only get better over time and catch up with some of the features that exist in the products of the mirrorless market leaders. Lastly, lets not criticize products that we have not yet gotten our hands on. The reality is cameras are a personal type of thing. Its about the way it feels in your hands, the usability melding with the photographer’s style, etc.
