Why is it that Nikon chose to limit their latest, greatest camera to Ultra HD 4K at 30 frames per second? Why could they not include 60 fps capability?

All Nikon is offering a measly 1080/120p.

Only 3 lenses? The 24-70mm f/4 S, 35mm f/1.8 S, and 50mm f/1.8 S. No serious lenses.
All your amazing AF lenses (Millions) are paper weights as far as features etc. (I remember many neophytes being told to get the expensive Nikons so the AF lenses will work that they were wanting to buy, what a waste of money for totally obsolete junk) At least your EF lenses are 100% functional from the first ones on and actually super enhanced with the R system.

One card slot. What a complete joke. Z7 pro model with the high end sensor and one slot and an expensive XQD slot at that which is apparently becoming obsolete as well.
Wow that is a risk if you are going to do any photography away from home.

Flip out rear screen another joke. Need a fully articulating one to really be serious for vlogging and other things that a flipper is just too lame for.

From reviews thus far the video focus is as bad as ever. Again why have video if your focus is a failure.

An f0.95 Manual focus lens? Why? You bought an AF camera and get a 1930's lens.

It confuses me to see that such an obvious failure sells well. Is it that there's one born every minute or is it that the perceived failures are not terribly important?

As you so succinctly point out, the Z is intended for serious photography.

Oh B.S. In developing a new camera system, or any retail product, companies do extensive market research to determine what features will give them the greatest potential to secure immediate sales at a price point that will reach the most customers.

The majority of the potential market don't care about a flip out articulating screen. The majority of customers will not be Vloggers. The majority of customers probably don't know their cameras have 2 card slots. The majority of customers are in Asia, not Europe or North America. How is something a joke or a failure when the first production runs are 100% sold out?

How can you honestly consider something a "failure" that you never used for yourself. Online reviewers write for eyeballs and clicks; generating controversy drives traffic.

And, the D850 was only released last year, by this time next year, the Z7S will be announced with more features.

Just chill.

Do you have anything original to say? So far you are just repeating what has already been said over and over. What's your point?

I am, just laughing at the Canon R bashing going on and was told to start a Z one if I wanted to comment.
Look at that post.

Nikon when they were designing the camera didn't want to make it appeal to you as they knew you wouldn't buy it regardless.

And Canon who outsells Nikon junk does not appeal to you.
The failure to make old lenses compatible with the new camera is really lame and have crappy focus or total lack of it tops it.
Glad Canon wasn't that stupid.
PS all old FD, FL, R and rangefinder lenses by Canon now will work on the R cameras. Amazing.

Nothing at all wrong with preferring Canon over Nikon, but to say that Nikon’s backward compatibility is lame, but Canon’s backward compatibility is amazing, is plain stupid!

Nikon came late reluctantly to the mirrorless game and this was a first attempt to get into it while still protecting their DSLR sales.

The thing that attracted me to mirrorless is no mirror vibration, no moving parts on the electronic shutter (mechanical has wear or needs adjustment), silent shooting that actual is silent, no focus calibration (sharper images), seeing the image before you take it, viewfinder information, size and weight reduction if selecting lenses prudently, eye focus tracking, etc..

Will they ever catch up, probable not if their continue guard the DSLRs. Time will tell but their competitors are not standing still and have a big lead.

At least Canon has 120% backward compatibility by actually improving upon the EF lenses as they are on the R cameras.
That is commendable.
Where all those AF Nikon lenses are just useless and not compatible with the Nikon Z system. Yes the "Mount" but so what?
Canon FD, FL, R and older lenses will all "Mount" and work just fine as they were built manually on the R system.
So Nikon really screwed their loyal braggart base gloating over not having lenses made obsolete.
And the single card slot is a complete joke no serious photographer would be caught dead with ever.
Finally the AF is not exactly stellar by any standard.

I never like the Canon but that we're talking SLR and DSLR. Both the R and the Z are mirrorless which I wouldn't want.

I think it’s too early to judge either system. There are bound to be more models to follow, with different features, based on customer demand.
