Since there has been relatively little testing for covid-19 and no existing statistics to fall back on, how do they come up with a figure like 2% mortality rate? There could be millions of people that were infected and got over it without any medical intervention. Wouldn't that drastically reduce the mortality percentage?

I'm not saying there isn't a big problem and we should all do what we have to to stay safe. I just wonder how all the facts are determined.

Clearly, we won't know the full extent of this pandemic's true mortality rate until it has been "controlled" and testing is available for all.

You do whatever you think is best for you and everyone you come in contact with and is in compliance with the laws wherever you live. For me and my wife, we are in our 70s, I have heart disease and another grandchild on the way (who I hope to see), so we are staying home. I prefer to die in my own bed in my own home if possible, not alone on a vent in an ICU. I can tell you from having had two heart attacks, that when you’re lying on a gurney in the ER fighting for your life, you don’t give a damn about your bank balance. Once you’ve had that experience, it puts everything else in perspective. I hope you avoid it.

The problem here is that a person is usually infectious long before they start exhibiting symptoms. That is assuming that the person isn't a "carrier" and never actually comes down with the disease themselves, in which case they go around spreading the virus and never realize what they are doing.

So you want to get a wake up call when you wake up DEAD broke? And the country is DEAD broke. Guess what, a country that is DEAD broke isn't a country.

Someone with this mind set has a higher probability of contracting the virus. IF they do "wake up" or survive, I'm sure they will have a different view of the importance of their portfolio. The real crime here is that this type of person will likely infect dozens of other people before they end up dying or recovering. . . and some of those people will likely die from this person's foolish, selfish and greedy actions.

Bill Gates wasn't really an visionary, he just read a few books. - "The Coming Plague - Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance" by Laurie Garrett was first printed in 1994 and I'm sure there are many before then. "The River : A Journey to the Source of HIV and AIDS" by Edward Hooper (1999) is another one. We (our society) don't remember the lessons of the past such as the Spanish Influenza of 1917 - 1918 so, here we go again.

This is excellent advice. Anyone who really loves their pet can do nothing better for them than maintain their weight at an optimal level. Teka is our female Wirehaired Viszla and she will be eight years old in September. She has been on a "raw" diet of beef & chicken (with lettuce or green beans for roughage) since she was 8 weeks old. She gets 6 ounces of meat & 2 chicken wings, twice a day as well as vitamins.
She weighs 60 - 65 lbs, which is about what a male of her breed should weigh - but she is very muscular. Another thing is that she is exercised regularly - a requirement for this breed of dog.

A look inside

Who told you this? Anyone who has ever been in a C-130 would immediately know that this is NOT the inside of a C-130. I have jumpmastered as well as jumped many many times from a C-130.

This picture is either the interior of a C-17 Globemaster or a C-5A. But I'm pretty sure its a C-17.

You need a static line extension when you jump from this aircraft.

One of my last jumps was from one of these.

I have been interested in my Family Tree for a long time. I have done significant research that put together a lot of information over the years. Recently I went online to one of the many websites that deal with family histories. I would like some help with a photograph that I found that is reported to be of my great grandfather, born in 1804. Understanding a bit of the history of Photography, I wonder if the birth date of 1804 and the apparent age of the subject in the photograph is consistent with the equipment and techniques that could have possibly been available in a typical mid-western town at the time when the photograph was apparently taken.

The hairstyle, dress and demeanor of the person in the photograph is clearly NOT that of a person of the 1830s or even 1840s AND there's no way a photo of this quality was taken during that time period anyway.. The guy in the photo is probably a wealthy Victorian. It looks like this may be a photo of a painting.
I have some experience with the ancestry web sites and have found them to be rife with errors. Anyone can enter information in them without any kind of proof.

I am now 71 and none of my male ancestors' father was young when they were born and my great grandfather was born in 1850. It seems quite improbable that your great grandfather was born in 1804

I served in the military (active & reserve - Marine Corps & Army) for 42.5 years - - Vietnam, Bosnia, Iraq & Afghanistan.

I would like to remind everyone that Memorial Day is NOT about veterans. It is about honoring and remembering those who died defending our nation.

You made my point about the marketplace. There won't be a Boeing if the public says so.

Boeing wasn't responsible for some other countries regulations about pilot training hours, were they?

I don't think there is anyone that doesn't recognize that third world airlines have few experienced pilots. There is a shortage of pilots world wide. If you look at the ages of the two captains of the planes that crashed, they are very young by U.S. standards. This has no bearing on Boeing selling aircraft with a defective MCAS system. At this point in time I've neither heard nor read of anyone who doesn't agree that the MCAS system is defective - whether it's software or sensors or both along with who knows what else.

It seems that few people here fully understand the implications this failure of Boeing and federal regulators and what is has done to the status of this nation worldwide. Neither Canada nor Europe trust our country to adequately test aircraft for public transportation use. Ethiopia refused to send the black box to our country - sent it to France instead. THIS IS SHAMEFUL THAT OUR COUNTRY HAS COME TO THIS.
