I recently ran into this same problem, you probably have two 4 mb memory’s. after looking into solutions, I googled “buy “ Nikon D7100 ram” and found a supplier and boug 2 8 mb rams for $42 and it solved the problem.

My machine is max'd out with 8Mb of memory. Looks like I'll have to get a newer system if I want to keep processing these panos. However, someone suggested that it might work to create sub-panos of a size that I can handle, then stitch them together to produce the final full image. I'll try that and see if that helps.

Thanks for all the comments and advice!

I'm just getting started with generating Panoramas with PTGui and am finding I quickly run out of 8Gb of memory with this project on my Win 10 PC. I'm trying to combine a dozen or so 30MB raw files. Do people not try to use full resolution images to generate panoramas or do I just need a bigger machine?

I've been asked to submit an image for critique, with the requirement that it not exceed 1MB in size. The original .jpg (converted from RAW) is about 27MB, so a 1MB copy will be drastically reduced in size. I can do that either by highly compressing the original image, or by resizing the original image. Which method do you think will produce the best 1MB copy of the original? Are there other options for creating a 1MB copy?

I have plans to visit Memphis in October. I know there are excellent photographic opportunities near Memphis, like water falls but I have not found any information in the Internet.
If anyone here knows the area or if someone has a link to information about photographic places around Memphis (not the city) I will appreciate that information.
I believe I saw that information here once but I cannot remember who was the OP.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Here's the website I use to track fall colors on the east coast. It is updated twice a week, and you can look back at previous year's reports to get an idea of what it will be like during the time you will be visiting. https://www.foliagenetwork.com/index.php/foliage-reports/foliage-reports-southeast-us/current-season-southeast-us

This is a gorgeous image, but what do you feel the advantage was in merging multiple shots, vs. a single shot encompassing the full view? Did you need the final image to have more pixels than a single image would have produced?

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughtful comments. I hadn't considered IS as a contributor to shutter lag. I learn something every day!

Just curious if shutter lag is shorter when shooting in manual with manual focus as compared with shooting in auto with auto focus. Seems like there could be less camera activity prior to actual exposure in the first case than the second case. Or is the difference only measurable in microseconds?

I rely on "blinkies" in camera, but often use the histogram during post-processing.
