I'm shooting at an Air Show this weekend and want some inspiration. Anyone have cool air show pics they can post?

Also... those of you who have shot air shows, what's your 'go-to' shutter speed, and any favorite filters??? Looks like we're gonna have a clear sunny day.

There is nothing more exhilarating than a good air show. Shutter speed all depends on what you are shooting. Balancing, lowest ISO, with the right shutter speed to show the propeller spin but keep the plane in focus (200-350th?), and capture a Fighter screaming past you 500-800!
Have fun!

don't forget you can always pick up an nice used DSLR.

I purchased my 40D used with less than 1,000 shutter counts for $250. (I totally lucked out on that one).

GREAT SCORE!!!
I have 2 of them!!!

I recommend you require a minimum number of posts before a person can sell or advertise, maybe 20-25. This will help eliminate scammers or trolls, because those individuals will probably move on to sites where there are no requirements. They won't want to invest their time to qualify.

Sadly you are probably right...

Only one problem with Canon repair and it involves the age of the lens.
A while back I sent a Canon 28-70 2.8 L lens to NJ for a clean, check and calibration, and they sent it back to me saying they no longer offered support for this lens.
Keep in mind this is an L series lens that I paid over $1,200 for some years back.

Yes this is a sad fact that if Canon no longer keeps a product in its line, they guit servicing them... Pretty sad when you pay that kind of L$L$L$L$ for a lens and they won't work on it.

I recently had a problem (Dropped it) on my 28-70L. The Manual/Auto focus switch broke off. My local Camera shop here in Portland was able to fix it. They can actually do a lot of things as long as they can get the necessary parts. (Which Canon quits making when they drop a product). They also did some repairs to my 80-200L. I am very happy with there service, pricing, and turnaround.
Good luck,
Randy

My first PRE-DSLR camera had the articulating screen. I LOVED IT ♥ ! When I stepped up to the 40D it did not have it, and I felt it was a big step down. If you ever have to crawl around on your belly in the mud to look up through the view finder at a flower or something, you will quickly learn to enjoy an articulating screen. Canon came out with the 60D with one. But they cheapened a lot of other things down with the camera, a plastic body instead of Magnesium, and lower Fast FPS, to name a few. You will have to decide how much it would mean for you and the type of shooting you want to do. If Canon puts it on a new camera without cutting out other features, I will buy it.

You've read it a hundred times in the past few weeks on this forum alone,

"The camera doesn't make the photo, it's the photographer who makes a great picture."

If this statement is true why doesn't everyone just use a nice point and shoot camera?

Modern P&S cameras come with lots of nice features and make great pictures. Ken Rockwell says it takes no more than a 2 MP photo to make full size poster blow up. Panasonic has lots of models all with Leica lenses and great zoom range. So why don't we make it easy and just shoot pictures with our phones?

Absolutely! A good or great camera will just allow a good or great photographer to create a better image.
But the best camera... is the one you have with you~

This is why. I am driving home today (I live out in the country) when I notice a Bobcat kitten siting by the side of the county road I live on. I stop to look at it because it is only about 10 ft away. It looks at me not afraid at all so I make a cat meow to see what it does. All of a sudden a house cat kitten comes out of the field meowing. It walks over to the Bobcat and they rub noses, sit down, and look at me. Of course I don't get out because momma Bobcat might and probably is hiding close behind a bush. I can't prove it because I don't even own a camera yet!

Yes this is a lesson we often learn with the sacrifice of no proof that an event happened... Last year I pull into my banks parking lot, finished filling out my deposit slip and into the parking lot drives the Oscar Meyer Wiener Mobile... I'd only ever seen it once before, and that was about 50?? years ago! Of course my Camera was at home... So no picture...
Now my trust worthy old P&S stays in my car with a fresh set of batteries for emergencies.

I'm trying to decide - I use a Canon 7D - I'm looking at a super wide angle lens and I've narrowed it to two; the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 vs Canon EF-S 10-22 f/3.5. Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks

Well I sure love my Canon EF-S 10-22 f/3.5. Its one of my favorite lenses to walk around and shoot with. But I concede I never did get to try the Tokina.

Here is my Flickr link to my 10-22mm pictures.

The Photo group I lead just has gone through this, and so far we are deciding that if you want "Critique / Comments / Advice etc " that you need to ask for it when you post your picture. Then people are free to comment on those, otherwise just be nice.

One of these photos was taken with a Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 lens, one with a 50mm 1.8 lens, and one with a 16 -85mm 3.5 lens There is a vast difference in cost and I am wondering if you can see it in the photos.

Canon person here, so I really don't know prices for any of these lenses. I would order them just the way you have presented them. 1, 2, & 3 as my order of preference.

In Canon terms we have L Lenses.. (Lots of $$ Lenses...) I have a 28-70mm (earlier version of today's now 24-70). I love it a lot, and it is my normal lens I almost always have mounted. It too, is 2.8.

Not to say I didn't just snap vacation pictures...

Big congrats to you! I think that's how most of us shot pictures before Digital took over. Glad you are back in the picture!

Yes they have changed a lot in my 40 or so years of photography...
Can we even imaging what the next 40 will bring?

I stupidly sold my Gossen Luna Pro Light meter when I got my first Digital camera 10 years ago, thinking I would never need it again... That was stupid!
