Why would anybody carry around a camera?
This is why. I am driving home today (I live out in the country) when I notice a Bobcat kitten siting by the side of the county road I live on. I stop to look at it because it is only about 10 ft away. It looks at me not afraid at all so I make a cat meow to see what it does. All of a sudden a house cat kitten comes out of the field meowing. It walks over to the Bobcat and they rub noses, sit down, and look at me. Of course I don't get out because momma Bobcat might and probably is hiding close behind a bush. I can't prove it because I don't even own a camera yet!

Don't suppose you do paintings either?
That's an amazing story!
If that were me and I witnessed that scene and did not have a camera with me (I often do not) I would probably drive off the next bridge I came to.

I would go to immediately to the nearest place to buy a camera...even one of the throwaway film cameras...or a cheap point and shoot... Then I would go back and try to find them... :)
Cell phone camera? I forget I have one most of the time. Mine takes unbeilvable pictures.
OH my gosh! I just about always have a camera on me-- even if it is just my Panasonic p&s
Today the excuse for not carrying camera is like not carrying your car keys with you when you leave the house to get in your car. I carried a camera 24/7 backin the non digital days for almost 12 years and today won,t leave home with one in my car on the seat.

You definitely need a cell phone with a camera. Incredibly useful for all sorts of mundane things, as well as the scene you described. Also, heaven forbid, if you are ever involved in a traffic accident, a picture is worth a thousand words (or legal arguments!), plus you can call for help. The I-phone or one of its "clones" would be nice, but you do not need to spend that much just to get a generic phone with camera ($50 or less).

I call those photographic memories stored in my memory bank.
Looking at that adorable pooch under the title "TP." Who's dog is that and what kind breed is it? My wife and I had a dog that looked almost identical and her name was "Chewie." Sadly she suffered a type of dementia when she was 17 years old and we had to have her put to sleep. Chewie changed our lives and touched us very deeply. Even after more than 6 years we still miss our lovable dog. To us she was more than just a pet. We now own 2 dogs... both small breed.
I know the dog in this photo probably has poodle in it. I realize that this is a photography forum, but the photo of the dog really caught my attention. Thanks for posting it on your profile whoever you are. it brought back some very warm memories, and a little bit of sadness too, but with warm smiles...
Magalyman,
Ah yes, I learned that lesson too when traffic stopped at the top of a bridge one morning on my way to work. I looked out over the water to see the most BEAUTIFUL water spout!! I would've had the perfect shot, even with a point and shoot with minimal zoom. This weather junkie was in a serious bad mood for days. Nowadays, when I'm not toting around my Canon T2i, I have a little Panasonic P&S with a pretty amazing zoom lens I carry in my purse.
I often carry my camera with me. I never leave it in the car, so if I leave the house, it goes in to work with me; goes into restaurants with me, etc. Needless to say, there are times when my cellphone camera will just have to suffice because I don't feel like carrying the bigger camera around that day.
As luck would have it, most times that I don't have my non-cellphone camera with me, is when I see something I wish I could photograph with the good camera.
Are you joking? I would mess up a paint by numbers kit!
I had my cell phone with me but I never use it for pictures so I did not even think about it. Dang!!
