Hello, I am a real beginner but have always loved taking pictures and think I do alright. I wanted some advice on a good camera for a beginner, money is an issue...so nothing too outrageous expensive. :-D

Well, I liked my Canon Rebel XTi, but I wouldn't just recommend Canon. My advise is to go to a camera store and tell them your budget. They will show you the best you can get for the money, and have an upward growth path for later when you get money (if that's your goal).
Brands I recommend include, but are not limited to, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Lumix, Fuji, Olympus. Hopefully, I haven't pissed someone off by leaving out their favorite brand. Seriously, a camera store probably carries most if not all of these, and will be able to steer you in the direction you'll be happy with.
I would stay away from Best Buy and stores like that, because although they sell decent stuff, their people are just hired on to man that department, and don't necessarily know what they're selling; a camera store that specializes in cameras, will more likely have people that know the product.

I agree with Les. Also if you are unable to afford a DSLR or bridge type camera right now. Look for a good point shoot that has alot of manual options. I currently use a Fujifilm J10 digital camera and after getting tired of crummy pictures started using the manual settings more and asking about them.

You can get a Nikon D3000 with a kit lens (18 to 55) for less than $500.00. Don't know if that fits in your budget or not. I'm sure that Cannon and other brands have a camera that falls within this same range and would be just as good. I just happen to be familiar with Nikon and this would be a good starter DSLR. I happen to have one and it has done fine.

don't forget you can always pick up an nice used DSLR.

I purchased my 40D used with less than 1,000 shutter counts for $250. (I totally lucked out on that one).

look at used equipment, you can get great value for less money. try adorama.com b+pphoto.com, or KEH..com have had great expirences with all three but especialy keh. I would look at nikon, sony/minolta, pentax or olympus before i would consider cannon. all those brands did not change their lens mounts except cannon. so say a manual focus lens from a nikon film slr will work on their dslrs you just don't get auto focus. this is a way to stretch your budget. you can buy a checked out and tested d-70 nikon for 200 bucks and get several used lenses for less than say a new 3100 with kit lenses. oh and keh puts a 6 month warranty on the equipment they sell.

In that case, call a camera store. If they think you'll potentially shop there, they will be able to steer you towards a few options.
I also like the idea of checking into used equipment at keh.com and other places mentioned earlier.

I noticed the keh.com site has a filter on the left side of the page. This will let you filter by price so you might be able to find something in your budget.

First, I've seen some of your pictures. They're really good.
Second, when you whittle down your choices to say, 3 or 4 cameras, do a Google search for the model number. Some of the hits you get might include used models of that camera. AND always check the ratings of the seller.

I agree with MWAC...
I started just 2yrs ago ..and I also purchased a nikon d40 used with the kit lens...for $300. It was the best investment ever! I just recently sold it and purchased the D3100 but I should have kept the d40 for a second camera. It was a great camera...you can pick them up cheap! Nikon or Cannon are both great.....try these Websites....both come with warranty!

or Ebay has deals too

Advice is cheap;
what camera do you have now?
What kind of pictures do you like to take?
What is your budget range?
Do you plan to sell your photos?
Do you use the free Picasa from Google?
When on a shoot what is your transportation method?
Will the camera you select stand your temperature range?
Have you searched eBay?
Is used out of the question?
ART?
