I think cropping two thirds of the sky would help. Also the white balance seems to be off and it seems a bit over-saturated. I would click on a cloud with the white balance dropper to correct the color and back off on the saturation slider.

I like the second one with Lou's body included. Everything is sharp that needs to be sharp .. the eyes .. the whiskers .. the nose .. nicely done. I would include the body though because Lou looks a bit plump and I bet that is part of Lou's personality. Big Lou. Love your kitty .. he's adorable!

Lovely clear shot. Nice angle with the light. It takes some patience to wait for a bird to turn it's head so you get the catch light, and it's not easy to get a blue sky with a properly exposed bird.

Quite a bit of work with a very nice result with the lighting. Interesting that you would have a lens distortion with a longer lens like that. I would have guessed a wider angle lens did that.

The color balance is way off. Some areas are over-saturated. The background is distracting .. perhaps a blur filter.

I like two better. Your subject is the yellow flowers. I think the yellow flowers draw the eye more when the image is blurred. In the first one, the surrounding area is SO distracting. One more thing you may want to try is to blur the flowers less than the background. Have one tiny portion in sharp focus. I am assuming you did this in Photoshop. So mask out the blur entirely at the very center of each flower, then gradually increase blur as you move out to the edges. It's a very interesting comparison.

It helps to use our terms correctly.
Something with a greater dynamic range is brighter at its b4ight end and darker at its dark end than is something of a lesser dynamic range.

Something of a given range with a greater spectrum has a greater number of steps of grey between the bright end and the dark end than does something with a lesser spectrum but equal range.

The image you posted has a great tonal range, but is of a very limited tonal spectrum.

Wow! Thanks for the input, Dave. I hadn't thought of it in this way before.

Pretty girl, lots of energy, great shot. How did you catch her on a white background, or is it photoshopped?

But I have been thinking of using Photoshop to put a solid colored background and some of my other pets shots. I really like it. It would be good practice in selecting furry objects. I will sayif I have Photoshopped something like that.

We had lots of snow. I used it as an opportunity to do photography with my animals on a white background.

Quite possibly that is their mindset. I would not venture to comment on any culture unless I had lived there for sometime and come to understand their thought process. I do like images that make one wonder.

I like to keep it simple and realistic. I think the halo around the mountain is the result of HDR Processing? (it could be eliminated with more processing in Photoshop). I took the original and applied several luminosity masks to balance the mid-range, selectively increase saturation, and bring out more detail in the sky. Final step was to use split toning to warm up the highlights and cool down the shadows.
As I think about it in retrospect, I would now apply some "light rays" (using paint brush) to the light coming through the tree. It's your photo with lots of potential. Have fun!
