This is a long post but I will try to make it short. I have a Tamron 150-600 lens that needed some adjustment with the auto focus. I called Tamron USA and she told me everything I needed to do. When I ask how to ship it, she said they use Fed Ex. I thought that was ok because I feel like UPS uses most everything for a football. I took it to my local Fed Ex Office, purchased a box and bubble wrap. When I asked the counter rep to borrow tape and scissors, He said "Oh no! I have the perfect safest way to send it". He proceeded to open packages and wrapped it in molded foam. I was a little worried about that because of the heat it gives off. But he assured me it was fine, and "nothing was going to get to this lens". I purchased $1100.00 insurance and paid extra for fragile. About a week later I received an acknowledgement from Tamron and the words " Evidence of Shock Damage" and "Broken External Parts" grabbed my eye. I immediately called Tamron USA and the young lady told me the box was crushed and should never send in molded foam. They kept the box for evidence and a note on the acknowledgement said "Please note Lens was damaged by insufficient packing". I had left the UV filter on it and it was also shattered. Tamron assessed the damage at $278.00 to fix which of course I told them to do it. I want my lens back! It's bird season in the RGV!. I have filed a claim on 12/3 and have not heard anything yet. My question is should I make them pay for the lens and filter or settle for the amount it takes to fix it? Comments please. Again sorry for the lengthy post.

Can't advise on the amount to put in the claim, But after filing, if you don't here from them in a couple of weeks, demand to no what your claim status is.

(Not in Delaware state I'm guessing.)

I'm thinking the same thing. Seems to me the water table wouldn't let you go that far down. I used to do acid mine drainage studies when I worked at Gannett Fleming, ( 50 years ago ) . A lot were not that deep and I believe most were flooded.

Czech police on the hunt for rifle stolen by deer...

Police in the Czech Republic have put out an unusual request after a deer stole a hunter’s gun. It fled the scene with the gun lodged in its antlers.

The deer was startled by a dog and charged straight towards a member of a party of hunters. They were hunting in the woods near the town of Horní Planá, not far from the Austrian border.

Just saw that. That ought to get a hunter's attention when they see it with a rife. LOL

Check this out, saving the environment! LOL

What they never tell you is that you have to make the electricity. About 80% of the time that's how it's done, with a fossil fuel. So much for it being carbon free or what ever they want to call it. If you want an electric car, that's fine, but you are not really saving the environment. My opinion.

Is it just me or does no one say you’re welcome anymore? Whenever I am out in a restaurant, store etc. and someone does something for me I say “Thank You”
Almost invariably the response in no longer “You’re Welcome” but “No Problem”
Does it bother anyone else or should I get a life and not worry about it?

I have to say that not only do I not get a " your welcome", but many times I don't get a "thank you". Can't tell you how many times I've held the door or let someone go first and they keep right on going like the door was on automatic. Not the world it used to be.

Once again, our mission team made the drive to Gamerco, New Mexico to do some work at the church that we normally use as our base of operations. The Navajo Reservation is closed to outsiders due to COVID. Fortunately the church is just outside the Reservation. It is in need of new roofing, so we put a metal roof on the center section of the church. The other sections will probably be done sometime next year. We stayed at the church and since all the work that needed to be done was at the church, there was no need to go anywhere else. We took a cook along so we could take all of our meals right there. We had snow for 2 days which kept us off the roof until we could clean it off. During those 2 days, we replaced 2 32" bathroom doors with 36" doors. These bathrooms are scheduled to become handicap accessible in the near future. We were the only mission team out there this year for our church conference. Here are some photos of the work. Hope you enjoy. Thanks for looking.

Had a hitchhiker on my truck the other day. He had brilliant red wings but I couldn't catch him in flight. I know someone here at UHH will know the species.

We are starting to see them in Harrisburg, Pa.. Kill them when you see them. I read that Penn State Univ. Has had success in training dogs to find their nests.

"...Many of the photos in the gallery today are outstanding..." kerry12 while I appreciate your suggestion I have found the "Gallery" virtually devoid of epic Fashion Editorials and Beauty Genre... or even outstanding Wedding and/or Bridal series... Sadly there are few if any commercial shooters left on UHH only those who use to work commercially and now simply pontificate on how "Great" they had been... UHH Gallery currently is pretty much a vast collection of mediocre "Calendar" and "Postcard" imagery of a bygone era... with a few intriguing offerings for entomologists.

However to contribute a positive suggestion for any who would like to see the current state of the art...
Please join IG a.k.a. Instagram... It is where you will find some the most outstanding photographers in the world... And they are actually still practicing their craft... not pontificating about their past fame...

Looking around close to home for some sunset shots, a few of these are not images of sunsets, but photos taken close to or after the sunset.
All data should be available in EXIF.
D5500 with 10-20mm and 17-70mm Sigma lenses. ISO 1000 mostly, all on tripod.
Images are shown in the sequence in which they were taken.
Please feel free to criticize, comment or make suggestions.
Images made from raw, post-processing in Capture NxD and ON1. Pano may have been done in Photoshop - don't recall, and it is almost midnight, so I am not digging around to check! Original skies. Stay well and enjoy!
