Very nice series! And exactly what grandfathers (and fathers) should be doing - teaching children tool/shop skills and shop safety.

Great thing for kids to do however, I would suggest safety glasses. That is also something you could teach them that would last a long time with all tools.

Yep and nary a pair of safety glasses in sight......or gloves.

I don’t know about the gloves, I can’t imagine doing woodworking with them on, but I certainly agree in general on the safety glasses (although a scroll saw isn’t very likely to throw much debris in your eyes except a little fine sawdust).

I am so glad to see youngsters being tutored by an adult.
Since I see no sawdust I will assume that nothing is really running or cutting and these great shots are staged for the camera.
I will also assume that when the saws start these neophytes will be wearing safety goggles and perhaps hearing protection?

Great to be encouraging them to "do-it-themselves", but I hope the shots were staged and that you have appropriate PPE for all of the grandchildren. I'm sure that you do. They look like great kids. Have a great Christmas.

They weren't working with wood at this point of the project but were cutting out cardboard images which will be used as part of it. When working with wood they definitely wear safety glasses as well as ear protection.

In answer to the safety glasses question, this part of the project consisted of cutting out images printed on cardboard rather than actually working with wood - when they are working with wood they definitely wear both eye and ear protection and Grandpa handles anything needing the heavy duty tools (aka table saw). That said, these kids are doing a great job and their finished projects are going to be wonderful.

A woodworker is very much like a photographer - GAS is a very real condition!
