I have 2 Sony's. The A7111 and the A6500. Used both in Kenya this summer. I did not have a huge dust issue. I am always very careful to point the camera down when changing lenses. If there is dust, I point the camera down and use a blower. I do use the in camera sensor clean feature.

I do think that some cameras, just attract more dust than others.

I have the same camera. I do find sometimes the flexible spot focus mode moves on it's own. I will use center focus or just check to see where the focus actually is. I do use BBF. I use the eye piece, it is easier for me to see exactly where the focus is.

I use Topaz products and Studio very often. I have a 15% discount code, pm me if interested.
There are many tutorials on the internet with instructions and tips on how to use them. I believe you can download a trial version.
The AI programs are awesome, AI Sharpen, Denoise, Adjust work well.

I have a Hoodman eye cup for my Sony cameras, A6500 and A7111. I had them for my Nikons and when I got the Sony's tried to find a hoodman for my A6500. I had to get a generic one for that one. I wear glasses so I got the larger one. It works great.

I have dog tags on my cameras, back packs and my luggage. If I should leave my camera, which I would never do, since my name and phone number are on the camera, I might get it back.

It has been helpful!

A friend runs the NYC Photo Safara's. Here is a link to their site.
If you contact Zim, she might be able to do a private tour for you. I have been
on her tours, she is great.

I recently did a photo tour with Federico Veronesi. We did a private tour, 6 photographers from Long Island. It was my 3rd time in Africa and absolutely the best. Federico is a wonderful photographer and tour guide that lives in Nairobi. He is well known in Amboseli and Masai Mara. His own truck is at the Mara Bush Camp. He knows the areas well, knows where many of the big cats are and has connections with some of the Masai. He was able to contact one of the Masai to help us track a huge elephant with the longest tusks.
I would highly recommend Federico.

Thank you. Intuitively, this seems perfect because it minimizes wasted space in the bag (sort of like rolling up your shirts). I assume that you are using something like the “lens wraps” or “equipment protection wraps” on sale at B&H?

I am thinking that this technique, maybe in combination with the previous suggestions of a smaller insert or camera bag in the suitcase, would be the way to go.

The lens wraps I used were Sigma wraps. Tamron also makes them. You can purchase them on Amazon or at B&H. They definitely work well to protect the lenses. They are large square with velco at 3 of the corners.

Check this out on Amazon.

I have used lens wraps to securely wrap lenses to put in a rolling bag. I make sure to pack tightly, so there is very little if any movement with the items packed. I have done this several times traveling by air. Security will sometimes open and check my bag. The lenses are protected well. I also use a back pack, but having the heavy lenses in the rolling bag saves my back. I do always separate the camera from the lens, pack each separately.

I just came back about 2 weeks ago from an amazing safari with 5 long Island photographers to Kenya. We went with Federico Veronsei. He lives in Nairobi, and does amazing photo tours to Amboseli and Masai Mara. He is very well known in both places, keeps his own personal truck in Mara Bush camp. He knows the area well, knows contacts who help with the tracking of some of the animals. It was my 3rd trip to Africa and definitely the best. He is a great photographer and is very helpful in getting the right angles and giving some helpful tips on shooting. I have been posting images on Flickr, still going thru the 10,000 images I took.

I recently got the Fotopro eagle series gimble from the B&H optic conference. I absolutely love this tripod head. I can use it with a long lens, Tamron 150-600 or use it with my Sony A711 Camera with an L bracket. While it is a bit pricey, the fact that I can use it all the time whether shooting long or landscape just made it a plus for me.

here is a great video on this gimbal head.

I have just reduced this bag. It is being advertised on this site from B&H for $109. I have it reduced to $75 plus shipping. It has never been used!
