Have you considered Nest brand. It is what I use, on a Nest tripod. The US distributor for Nest Gimbal heads is MT Shooter here on UHH.

I also have a NEST that I like, but the website you linked has incredibly high prices - cheaper elsewhere I think.

Not a bad spec for Lr, but it depends on whether you want to use 4k displays (highly recommended, I get most of my 30MP images on a 32" 4k monitor at 1:1)). If you want 4k, you need a high end GPU (graphics card). I got an nVidia GTX1070 with 8GB which works OK, but I wish I had gone for a 1080/11GB for quicker response.

Canon Pro-100 - very inexpensive when there are mail-in rebates (nearly all the time), great prints up to 13x19, ink is very long lasting (even though it is dye based). I haven't had any clogs in about 3 years of very intermittent usage.

Time to buy a new desk-top computer. My current one is over eight years old and has served me well. However, I assume its days are numbered, and it very occasionally refuses to accomplish a task in PS. The option of purchasing an iMac has been considered and rejected, so please no entries in the great Apple vs pc debate.

Some details. I know little about computers other than what I need to use them. But I use LR and PS -- including levels, masks, etc -- and thus need a computer that can handle them easily. My current thinking is to purchase a Dell XPS with a 3.6 GH Intel Core i7-8700 with 16 GB, and a Nvidia Video Card. The hard drive would be 256 GB SSD plus a 2TB, 7200 rpm HDD. As may be obvious, I do not understand the meaning or significance of all these specifications, but my conclusion is that this should meet my needs. I am leaning towards a Dell because it appears to have the reputation of being the most reliable.

Two related questions, assuming I go with Dell. Any advice about whether I should buy directly from Dell or from B&H. And is the Premium Support Plus service that Dell offers worth the price?

Your views and advice will be greatly appreciated.

My advice is get the fastest CPU you can afford, 32GB of RAM, a large-ish M.2 SSD (500gb or larger, a 1TB Samsung 970 Pro is best for the long term) for your system drive and either a big SSD and/or a largish hard disk for storing photos. The video card spec is determined by your screen resolution. 4k monitors are by far the best and need a better video card. I recommend nVidia GTX1060 or higher with a minimum of 3GB, for 4k get a GTX1080 with 8GB is best. You will probably struggle to get a Dell with the right spec (they are not designed for our type of use). I got a custom built system from CyberPowerPC through Costco about a year ago and it works well i7 7700K, 32GB RAM, GTX1070/8GB, 1TB 960 Pro M.2, 2TB 860 EVO SSD, 5TB HDD, a 12TB RAID Array for backup and Crashplan cloud storage for second backup. The PC cost me about $2,500 but would be considerably cheaper now. I got a full tower case so that I can keep adding additional drives and my pictures (Lr CC Classic used) multiply! My monitors are a 3 year old 32" Dell 4k 3216 and a 27" Samsung IPS 4k.

Good luck, take your time. I like buying through Costco whenever I can because of their service and extra warranty.

I have done my first metal print at Sam's Club and am ecstatic with the results. I doubt I will use canvas printing anymore. The colors, sharpness and clarity on metal is astounding.

I have to second that - I was blown away by the quality of the Sams Club metal prints (actually printed by Fuji Labs) and the low price.

I need a new printer,I need an all in one, print, scan, copy.I've had a Canon,it was good while it lasted.About 3 1/2 yrs.I was thinking of spending a little more this time, about $350..Does anyone have any recommendations. For either a Canon or Epsom.

I've used a Canon Pixma Pro-100 for 3 or 4 years. It's never once clogged and produces brilliant 13x19 prints with a long life (even though it is a Pigment ink).

Even better, it's regularly on sale for $50-150 with rebates from Canon. Right now B&H sell it for $120 (including 50 sheets of 13x19 paper) after rebate.

You don't mention the brand of memory card or if you formatted it in-camera before use. Both can be important factors. Some cards are better than others... and some brands are frequently counterfeited. Regular in-camera formatting is a good idea.... just to be certain the card is set up properly for the camera.

You also didn't tell us your method of download. That also can be important. Downloading via USB cable is not as reliable as removing the card from the camera and downloading images via a card reader.

Is the card new, or has it been used for a while? Has anyone else used it in another camera?

Also, any changes to your computer or card reader?

If your other cards are working fine without any issues, it's most likely that particular card... not the camera.

If you're seeing this happening on multiple cards, there's greater possibility it's an issue with the camera (or your download procedure). If it seems to be the camera, first thing I'd do is try a firmware update (or reinstall, if it's already up to date). That can solve problems, is relatively quick and easy, costs nothing to try and if it works will save having to be without the camera while it's out being checked for issues.

There have only been two times I've ever had corrupted images from memory cards... and both were my own fault

- Once was when I interrupted the camera while it was still writing to the card (an older camera that was slower writing images). I opened the memory card door before it had completed writing.... I was able to recover about 3/4 of the images from that card.

- The other time was a connectivity issue. I'd added a USB hub to my computer to accommodate some added devices and was running a card reader through that hub. I saw a number of images corrupted. As soon as I switched it back and directly connected the card reader to one of the computer's USB ports, all was fine again. I didn't lose any images because I never "move" images from my cards... I always "copy" them instead (leaving them on the card until I know for certain the copies are safe and secure on the computer).

Other card issues I've had over the years (without any corrupted images):

- I also had trouble with one or two cards that I'd lent to a friend, who used it in another brand camera. First time I tried to use them in my cameras, they wouldn't work correctly. I caught that before taking any images and after formatting the cards again worked fine in my camera. (Note: I have never had any problem using cards in different Canon models that I use, though I make a habit to format every card before use... and that might have something to do with it.)

- Out of probably 100 or more memory cards of various types I've used over the years, I've only had two cards fail. One was a brand new SDHC that the camera and computer wouldn't even recognize, right out of the package. Couldn't use it at all. The second instance was a new Compact Flash card that worked once, then seemed to lock up after partial download of the images. We were shooting RAW + JPEG and had downloaded only the JPEGs on location... That went fine. But later on when I tried to download the rest of the images, the card was unreadable and inaccessible (both on my desktop and on the laptop we'd used earlier to download the JPEG versions of the images). Both instances the cards were a top brand name, high performance and high quality. Neither appeared to be a counterfeit, either.

The brand is Transcend and the card is about 1-2 years old. It was formatted in the camera and the images were transferred by removing the card and using a card reader on my PC.

I've sent the camera to Canon to be checked (as it's still under warranty and I have a Pro account, so it will be done in 1-2 days).

The card I was using was one of 3 64 GB cards. Unless they find a problem on the camera, I'll probably junk all 3 and buy a couple of new 128GB cards.

Thanks for all the data.

Do you have the camera manufacturer's RAW editor? Do they work with it?
If not, buggered files, if they do, LR anomaly.
Very odd about every tenth file... Maybe camera software hiccup?
Try to repeat with another card?

Even stranger - I just opened one of the files in Canon DPP4 (Digital Photo Professional 4) and it opened fine. So I saved it as a RAW (.CR2) file and then that would open in Lightroom! I'm going to call Canon back and ask them about this.

I had an SDXC card containing about 90 photos, the last of 4 cards in a shoot. Exactly every 10th photo (9513, 9523, 9533, 9543, 9553, 9563, 9573, 9583) was corrupt and would not import into Lightroom but copied OK onto my computer). I checked the memory cards with several different tools and can’t find a problem with them.

I shot a few 100 test photos on the card and they were fine. The corrupt photos display the internal JPG preview with no problem, but the RAW data are corrupt.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

The display of Chihuly glass will be at the Biltmore in Asheville, NC until Oct. 7th, in case you want to visit. I recently toured the estate and here are a couple of images from the display.

Chihuly glass is quite remarkable. There are multiple displays in the US and the two we have been to were virtually identical.

While the glass is quite wonderful, be aware that little or none is actually made by Chihuly himself - this is a significant sized business.

Back in 1968 my family and I took a cross country flying trip from Indiana to California and back. Fortunately we made it back! At the time I wrote a magazine article for a flying magazine but they did not print it. I have recently had the slides scanned and the "kids" are urging me to publish a little book. It has been a long time since I published a book of our travels so I am not acquainted with resources. So, if you kind people would give me advice about where to turn for help, I will appreciate it very much.

It's a low cost nice sized standard HD (1920x1080), standard gamut (sRGB) display. Don't expect much from it and it won't disappoint. I generally suggest spending a little more and getting 10 bit, wide gamut support, even if it means a smaller display. Dells are great, but they won't calibrate correctly with a Spyder. You'd need an Xrite i1 Display Pro. $209 at B&H.

I have had a Dell UP3216Q monitor for 3 years and it appears to calibrate just fine with my Spider4 Elite. Am I missing something?

What about a 4k monitor, for example the Dell P2715Q 27" Ultra HD 4K Monitor for $350? A little more, but you will get much closer to 1:1 on your monitor
