Regardless of many images I shoot I only keep less than 25,000 total. I periodically review and cull unneeded photos. I am not a professional and I can't imagine a scenario where I would need to keep more than 25,000. The overwhelming majority of them are raw files, followed by JPEGs and lastly Tiff files. The total takes up less than 1 terabyte on my computers hard drive and three redundant backup drives.

For me, I have a 6 TB external drive connected via Thunderbolt interface. My image are also backed up locally to a 4TB Time machine drive which backs up the entire system - keeping about 1 years worth of recoveries online 24x7. I also keep a 2 TB drive in a fireproof/waterproof box that connected monthly to backup only my images. I also back my entire system up off site using "Crashplan". My backups run 24x7 both locally and off site.

I don't have the discipline to do that.

I keep all of mine on my iPhone, that way I can add bunny ears and angels swirling around their heads with snap-chat filters!!!
Seriously, my C drive is 1 tb, then I transfer the not important images and all not recently used files to a 3tb with a second back-up.
The 1 tb fills pretty quickly so I have to move files pretty often. I erase 75% or more soon after downloading. I shoot mostly with 50mp.
